Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup
Streamwood jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and then cruised to a 61-42 Upstate Eight River girls basketball win over Larkin Tuesday night.
Sophomore Hannah McGlone recorded a double-double as she dropped 20 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the Sabres (4-4, 1-1). Jessica Cerda (11 points) and Deja Moore (10 points) also added double-digits for the Sabres.
Victoria Patterson led the Royals (0-6, 0-2) with 20 points and Jill Casebeer added 9 points.
Harvest Christian 39, West Lake Christian 28: The Lions (4-1) found themselves trailing by 2 points heading into halftime, but surged ahead in the third quarter and never looked back as they earned a 39-28 victory. Jordie Wells turned in a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 4 steals while Andrea Triphan led all scorers with 12 points. Carol Kauffman contributed defensively with 9 rebounds and 6 steals to go along with 6 points.
Hampshire 42, Crystal Lake Central 15: The Whip-Purs (3-5) used a balanced offensive attack as each player recorded at least one basket en route to an easy 42-15 victory in a Fox Valley crossover. Michelle Dumoulin and Jenny Dumoulin paced the Whips with 8 and 6 points, respectively. Sara Finn and Abby Burke each added 5 points.
Cary-Grove 43, Prairie Ridge 35: The Trojans (4-3, 1-0) earned a victory in their Fox Valley (Valley) opener as they defeated the Wolves 43-35 at home. Joslyn Nicholson paced the Trojans with 11 points to go along with her 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Olivia Jakubicek also recorded double-digits with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
St. Charles North 52, Elgin 41: The Maroons (0-8, 0-2) hung close with the North Stars, but fell 52-41 in Upstate Eight Conference action. Briana Hamilton paced all scorers with a game-high 19 points while Alex Bell turned in a solid game with 13 points.
Huntley 56, McHenry 55: The Red Raiders (5-2, 2-0) rallied from a 3 point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to earn a 56-55 Fox Valley Conference victory at home. Abbey Shaw (10 points) hit the game-winning layup with 1.6 seconds left to secure the win. Sam Andrews paced the Red Raiders with 19 points and added 4 rebounds while Haley Ream recorded 14 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
DeKalb 50, Burlington 42: The Rockets (3-5) fell behind early and could not mount a large enough comeback as they fell 50-42 to the Barbs on the road. Jessica Laird led the Rockets with 24 points while freshman Alison Colby also recorded double-figures with 12 points.
Willows Academy 40, Elgin Academy 21: Ashley Barnes led the Hilltoppers with 11 points as they were defeated 40-21 by Willows Academy.
Women’s basketball
Rock Valley College 61, Elgin Community College 58: The Spartans fell just short as they were unable to come up with a victory against Rock Valley College. Alex Dumoulin (17 points), Cassie Dumoulin (16 points), and DiJon Smith (16 points) all recorded double-digits for the Spartans.
