Chicago Youth Symphony opens season Nov. 20

Young, talented musicians from the suburbs will be part of the 130-member Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra as it kicks off its 65th anniversary season at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 at Orchestra Hall, 220 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.

Under the baton of Music Director Allen Tinkham, the orchestra will perform works by Strauss, Prokofiev, Barber and Scriabin. Suburban musicians are from Arlington Heights, Aurora, Barrington, Bolingbrook, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, Downers Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hinsdale, Long Grove, Naperville, Wheaton, Wood Dale and Woodridge.

The CYSO Symphony Orchestra has earned an international reputation as a premier orchestral ensemble featuring extraordinary young musicians from the Chicago area.

The program for the Nov. 20 concert will include: “Don Juan,” by Richard Strauss; the Andante and Allegro giusto from the Sinfonia Concertante by Serge Prokofiev (Austin Huntington, cello); Essay No. 2 by Samuel Barber; and “The Poem of Ecstasy” Symphony No. 4,” by Alexander Scriabin.

CYSO alumni have gone on to hold key positions as part of acclaimed national and international orchestras and established solo careers.
