Healthy children tour listens to Palatine residents
The National Movement for America’s Children is traveling across the country and hosting a series of listening tours to listen and gather information which will help to shape a national strategy for America’s Children.
Recently, the Movement stopped in Northwest Illinois, where Palatine area residents shared their ideas on how society can help provide kids with the healthiest childhood possible.
In partnership with Illinois state Reps. Fred Crespo and Michelle Mussman, the National Movement for America’s Children teamed up with Children’s Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County and Campanelli YMCA to host a listening session at Harper College. Area citizens were invited to attend the listening session and answer to the Movement’s Big Question: How can we ensure every child in America has an equal chance at a healthy childhood and development? Jim Hmurovich, president of Prevent Child Abuse America and co-founder of the National Movement for America’s Children, acted as moderator during the discussion and carefully recorded participants’ suggestions.
The event was the 12th listening tour session since July 2011, and the movement has taken the discussion across the country, from Oklahoma to Colorado, Indiana, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida, and will move on to Vermont and New Hampshire. The listening tours will continue into next year, when the movement’s founding partners will use the key findings to shape the next steps of the movement and build a National Strategy for America’s Children.
The movement was founded by 12 founding partners, including American Humane Association; Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs; Child Welfare League of America; Children’s Leadership Council; Center for Law and Social Policy; The General Federation of Women’s Clubs; National Alliance of Children’s Trust and Prevention Funds, National Healthy Start Association; Prevent Child Abuse America; Voices for America’s Children; The Washington Children’s Foundation; and ZERO TO THREE, National Center for Infants, Toddlers, and Families.
