Harper look for bowl bid

The Harper College football team wraps up its regular season tonight as the Hawks take on Wisconsin-Parkside’s club team at Ameche Field on the campus of Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wis., at 7 p.m.

Parkside generally runs a pro-style offense while mixing a little spread into the mix. On defense they will run a base 4-3 front.

The game was scheduled largely for Parkside’s benefit. The student body would like to see the Division II school add a football program.

“They really want to see how they stack up against a real college football program” Harper coach Eric Waldstein said.

Harper prepared for the game by practicing offensive starters versus defensive starters, something that is not done on a regular basis.

If the Hawks are able to pull out a win, they have a chance to earn ther school’s first bowl bid under Waldstein, who is in his third season at Harper.

“We’re being very optimistic,” Waldstein said of the team’s chances of playing in a bowl game. “We are planning playing football for two more weeks.”

Waldstein said it would be huge for the Harper program if the Hawks are able to secure a bowl bid.

Their opponent would either be Midwest Football Conference West Division foe Iowa Central or North Dakota State Science.
