State tourney gets rolling Monday
The 2011 state girls volleyball tourney gets under way Monday as Prospect, Wheeling, Conant and Hoffman Estates participate in play-in matches for regionals.
Area teams will be at four different Class AA sectionals: Buffalo Grove, St. Charles East and Glenbrook South and Prairie Ridge.
All semifinals matches will be on Tuesday.
At Buffalo Grove: No. 1 is Lake Forest, followed by Stevenson, Hersey, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Rolling Meadows, Mundelein, Fremd, St. Viator, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Zion-Benton, Warren, Prospect, Highland Park, Wheeling, Deerfield and Round Lake and Waukegan.
On Monday, Prospect meets Round Lake in a play-in 5:30 p.m. play-in match for the Stevenson regional and Wheeling meets Waukegan in a 5:30 p.m. play-in match for the Wheeling regional.
At St. Charles East: No. 1 is York, followed by St. Charles East, Glenbard West, geneva, West Chicago, St. Charles North, Batavia, Wheaton-Warrenville South, Lake Park, Schaumburg (H.S.), Bartlett, Addison Trail, Wheaton North, Glenbard East, Conant, Elk Grove, Willowbrook, Glenbard North and Hoffman Estates.
On Monday, Conant faces Hoffman Estates in a play-in match to the Bartlett regional.
At Glenbrook South are No. 1 New Trier, followed Evanston, Glenbrook South, Loyola, Glenbrook North, Niles West, Maine South, Niles North, Leyden, Maine East, Maine West, Von Steuben, Lincoln Park, Lane Tech, Taft, Northside, Schurz and Amundsen.
At Prairie Ridge: The only area team in this sectional is Barrington, the Mid-Suburban League champion. The Fillies are seeded No. 2 in the Dundee-Crown regional behind No. 1 Huntley. Jacobs is No. 3 and Dundee-Crown No. 4.
In Class 2A, Christian Liberty hosts its own six-team regional: No 1. seed is Mother Guerin, followed by Woodlands Academy, Willows Academy, Christian Liberty, Chicago Academy and Chicago Math and Science.
The Chargers face Chicago on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in a play-in match for Tuesday’s semifinals.
