Enjoy Local Music Night Oct. 21 at Gallery 200
Local Music Night performers are set to take the stage once again from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Gallery 200/STUDIO, 203 Turner Court, West Chicago.
This month's performers include Beth Carlson, Laurie Schaefer and Dustin and Colleen Huckstep, with the evening concluding with an open mic session that begins at 8:30 p.m.
The venue offers great local music to area residents in a variety of genres, such as rhythm and blues, southern rock, gospel and folk, to name a few. Artist and musician Mandy Rakow has continued working with area performers to build on the momentum of Local Music Night, which began in October 2009, as an initiative of the West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission.
October's performers include:
Beth Carlson strums her 12-string guitar and sings with an angelic voice, performing songs from yesterday and today written by some of the finest songwriters of recent history. While her focus leans toward contemporary folk, she chooses music from a diverse range of styles and lyrics that hold a true meaning for herself and others. She is certain to entertain and, perhaps even tug at the heartstrings as she has done for many.
Laurie Schaefer is a professional music therapist who plays the guitar, flute and piano. She is a song writer, worship leader, and performer. She has been a live performer at Local Music Night, coffee houses, and at various eateries with First Star Destiny.
Dustin & Colleen Huckstep should be called the “double barreled duo.” Listeners will know why when they hear the sweet vocal harmonies and original compositions on a bed of mellow acoustic guitar. A presentation that ranges from delicate to hand clapping & foot stomping tells members of the audience that they came to write and sing.
The evening of music and refreshments is now a free monthly event, although donations are greatly appreciated. A schedule of upcoming performers can be found on the Local Music Night page at www.gallery200.com.
