Harper mens’ soccer team finishes with win

The Harper College men’s soccer team saw its regular season come to an end with a 2-0 victory over Madison Area Technical College on Tuesday.

Patrick Norr and Diego Caldera (Elk Grove) both scored for Harper, which wraps up the regular season 5-7 overall and 5-4 in the North Central Community College Conference.

“We are hot and cold,” said Harper coach Jason Diebold, who praised the play of goalie Geroge Caballero (Palatine), defender Alex Bochat (Fremd) and midfielder Kyle O’Meara (Palatine).

Ÿ The Harper women’s soccer team dropped a 6-2 decision to College of DuPage (8-3) Friday.

“I wasn’t happy with it,” said Harper coach Dwayne Cruz.

The Hawks (7-5, 4-2 N4C) are off until Sunday, when they take on Oakton to finish the regular season. Cruz says the break in the action before facing Oakton is coming at the “perfect time.”

Ÿ The No.-9 ranked Harper College women’s volleyball team (26-9, 8-2 N4C) is coming off an impressive week.

“I am happy with what we accomplished,” said Harper coach Bob Vilsoet.

The Hawks are 6-4 in their last 10 games, which includes 2 wins against No. 10 Rock Valley College.

The Hawks will be busy this week as they participate in the Kishwaukee Invitational.

“This is a perfect tournament heading toward the regionals,” Vilsoet said.

The Hawks will play a tough group of games, including three teams ranked in either the NJCAA Division II or III poll. The action against ranked teams begins with today’s 6 p.m. game against Owens Community College. The Express is ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA Divsion II poll.

On Friday, the Hawks face off against Muskegon (Mich.) Community College at 7 p.m. The Jayhawks are ranked No. 13 in Division II.

Saturday might be the most important day for the Hawks when it comes to the Division III portion of the NJCAA. The Hawks play Nassau, ranked 10th, at 12:30. The Lions are just one spot behind the Hawks in the national rankings.

Ÿ After competing at the Benedictine Invitational last week, the Harper College cross country teams will run at the Loras Invitational hosted by Loras College in DuBuque, Iowa.
