Girls volleyball / Lake County roundup
It was a feel-good night at Lakes High School.
Not only did the Eagles sweep rival Antioch in North Suburban Prairie girls volleyball action (31-29, 25-16), they also were able to help raise money for a good cause. Funds from the teams’ fifth annual “Volley for the Cure” match will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
Sarah Horner led Lakes with 6 kills while Rachel Sieracke and Emily Aigner each had 4 kills.
For Antioch, Brianna Grant had 7 kills and 5 blocks while Marissa Grant had 11 assists. Sarah Gagnon had 8 digs for the Sequoits.
Libertyville d. Buffalo Grove: Libertyville improved to 19-6 on the season with a 25-19, 25-20 victory over Buffalo Grove. Taylor Zant and Julia Smagacz led the Wildcats with 4 kills apiece while setter Cindy Zhou had 21 assists. Rhiannon Prentiss finished with 8 digs for Libertyville.
Grant d. Lake Forest Academy: Grant outlasted Lake Forest Academy, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23. Brooke Buckley had 8 kills and Beka Couch had 5 kills for the Bulldogs. Scottley Sandnes led Grant with 15 digs while setters Taylor Rossi and Jamie Reiser had 13 and 11 assists respectively.
Vernon Hills d. Regina: Shannon Nugent and Jenn Claussen each had 8 kills to lead Vernon Hills to a 25-19, 25-12 sweep over Regina. Setter Sarah Lehman had 16 assists for the Cougars, who moved to 16-10 on the season.
