Health Dept. offers low-cost pet vaccines in Fox Lake

The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Animal Care and Control Program, in cooperation with the Fox Lake Parks and Recreation Department and the Fox Lake Police Department, will offer a low-cost pet vaccination clinic on Saturday, October 15, from 9 a.m. until noon at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., in Fox Lake.

The clinic is a first in Fox Lake for Animal Care and Control and part of the village's Paws in the Park event with a dog parade at noon, food and pet vendors.

Anyone is welcome to attend, but Fox Lake residents have an added advantage because those wishing to have a microchip placed in their dog or cat may do so at no cost, courtesy of the Fox Lake Police Department. Also, village of Fox Lake dog tags will be available for $5 each.

The clinic is a convenient and affordable way for any Lake County resident to keep pets up to date with shots and rabies tags. The Fox Lake location is the last scheduled vaccination clinic by the Health Department's Animal Care and Control program this year, as most are held outdoors.

Vaccination costs are as follows:

For Pets Spayed/Neutered

One-year rabies vaccination and Lake County tag: $20.00

One-year rabies vaccination, tag and distemper: $25.00

Distemper complex only: $10.00

Microchip: $15.00 (Free for Fox Lake residents, courtesy of Fox Lake Police Department; proof of residency may be required.)

For Pets Not Spayed/Neutered

One-year rabies vaccination and Lake County tag: $60.00

One-year rabies vaccination, tag and distemper: $65.00

Distemper complex only: $10.00

Microchip: $15.00 (Free for Fox Lake residents, courtesy of Fox Lake Police Department; proof of residency may be required.)

Pets will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. All animals brought to the clinic must be at least four months old. Dogs must be leashed and cats placed in carriers. Only cash will be accepted on site.

The Health Department's Animal Care and Control Program tracks pet vaccinations and rabies tags, investigates animal bites and complaints of nuisance and neglect, as well as impounds stray animals.
