Lake Co. YMCA offers Zumba Master Class with Jani Roberts

The Lake County Family YMCA is encouraging people to “ditch the workout and join the party” at a special zumba master class featuring instructor Jani Roberts.

The special class will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Northern Lake YMCA, 2000 Western Ave., Waukegan.

“Zumba is one of our most popular classes. It incorporates unique Latin moves and rhythms – more like a dance – yet it's a vigorous workout,” said Clair Pauschert, Lake County Family YMCA health & wellness director. “We're excited to be able to bring Jani Roberts to teach this, as she is known as `the main woman' in the zumba industry. This initiative ties into our commitment to provide programs that promote healthy living in the community.”

“In all my years in the fitness industry,” Pauschert added, “I've seen a lot of workouts come and go, but this one has gained momentum around the world with countless men and women doing zumba, which was developed by a man, Beto Perez, who taught Jani Roberts.”

Roberts has a huge following of her own, Pauschert explained. She is a retired professional Adagio performer, singer, dancer and choreographer who has more than 30 years of experience performing in more than 25 countries. She is a graduate of the American Academy of Nutrition and owner of the Wellness Company of Dunedin, Florida.

Cost is $20 in advance with limited space available. Cost at the door will be $25.

“We welcome the community to not only come out and participate but come and watch if you'd like as zumba participants typically dress in bright colors -purple, orange, lavender, pink and turquoise. It's pretty to your eye, sounds good to your ears, and is fun to do.” Pauschert added.
