12,000 lose power in DuPage County

More than 12,000 West suburban ComEd customers lost power for about two hours tonight as hot and humid temperatures hovered around 90 degrees.

A circuit breaker failure at 6:15 p.m. caused 12,700 customers to lose power in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Lombard and Milton and York Townships, said ComEd spokesman Tony Hernandez.

As of 8:30 p.m. power to the majority of those customers were restored, and the utility expected the rest to be back up and running by 9 p.m.

“All of our readings were normal at the time of the outage,” Hernandez said, explaining that hot weather did not factor into the outage.
