Lake Park sponsors a senior in Humanitarian Service Project's program

The National Honor Society students at Lake Park High School's West Campus in Roselle, Illinois raised $800 to continue sponsoring a senior citizen in the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) Senior Citizen Project. Lake Park High School has supported HSP since 1997 by sponsoring a child in the Children's Birthday Project and hosting food drives and volunteering.

The National Honor Society is a group of students chosen by the teachers who exemplify character, service, scholarship and leadership. Lake Park's mission is to inspire the students to be responsible, and have a passion for learning to help challenge the students to reach their full potential according to Lake Park High School's website.

Sponsoring a senior means the National Honor students of Lake Park High School are able to provide a 90 pound package of nutritional food each month for a year to a needy senior in the Senior Citizens Project serving DuPage and Kane counties. “The donations and volunteer help we have received from the students have shown how much they care and want to help the community.” said Karole Kettering, Executive Director of HSP.

The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizens Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products, in addition to fresh fruits and vegetables. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and Holiday Meal provided by HSP's volunteers.
