The wait is over for Harper’s Waite

Harper College softball coach Brenda James announced that sophomore Julie Waite, a Conant graduate, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Robert Morris University-Springfield, an NAIA school.

Waite had considered attending Cardinal Stritch University, Indiana Tech University and Trinity International University before deciding on Robert Morris-Springfield, where she will receive a partial athletic scholarship.

“I am very excited for Julie in her next endeaver at school and softball,” James said. “I think RMU-Springfield will be great for her academically, athletically and for her future post-academia. I wish julie well now and always.”

Waite, who recently earned an associate’s degree from Harper with a 2.49 GPA, plans to major in business.

Since 2006, the Eagles’ softball teams have finished no lower than third at the USCAA National championships and have won two national crowns.

“It’s a good program,” Waite said. “They made it pretty clear to me that I will be pitching.”

Waite could be the Eagles’ No. 1 starter for head coach Matt Mead, who is also the head women’s basketball coach.

“I know that they are working on recruiting another pitcher or two,” Waite said.

Waite was impressed by the Eagles assistant coach Boyd Nowicki, who aggressively recruited her.
