Harper soars to titles
Harper College claimed both the men’s and women’s national track and field titles at the NJCAA Division III championships in Alfred, NY on Saturday.
The Harper women won by nearly 40 points while the men won by 23.
The Harper women finished with 132 points, topping second-place Kingsborough Community College (9.25).
The Harper men scored 152 points finishing ahead of Delhi’s 129 points.
De’Larissa Morris of Harper, a Streamwood High School product, was named the most outstanding field athlete in the women’s competition. Savannah Boucher of Mohawk Valley Community College was named the most outstanding track athlete.
In the men’s competition, Jarrett Austin of Harper took the most outstanding field award and Ozzie Huerta of Gloucester took the track athlete award.
Renee Zellner of Harper was named both the men’s and women’s coach of the meet. She was also named the men’s coach of the year.
Key finishes for the Hawks women Saturday came from the winning 400 relay (Lille Blackmon, Susie Lello, Jazmin Calep, Sabina Marek) and Karoline Banasik (800, 2nd),
Top finishes for the Harper men came from Cisco Sotoa (1,500, 1st), Garrett Dorsey (400, 1st) and Robert Douglas (110 hurdles, 2nd).
