Schaumburg tops Hersey
Schaumburg’s Jordan Grubb reached over the center-field fence to grab a flyball in the sixth inning, helping the host Saxons protect a 1-run lead against visiting Hersey on Friday in Mid-Suburban League baseball.
Schaumburg (10-6, 3-5) won 5-4 as Roger Lane (2-for-3) doubled in the fifth inning to start a 4-run Schaumburg rally. Matt Brancato (2-for-3) had a 2-run single and Mark Bielanski had a two-out, 2-run double.
Pat Bellinger earned the win and Matt Brancato went the last 2 innings for the save. Joe Perricone homered for Hersey (11-10, 5-5).
Fremd 16, Wheeling 5 (5 inn.): Sean Stutzman connected on two 3-run homers to help the host Vikings power past the Wildcats.
K.J. Kinsella and Keith Giagnorio also homered for Fremd (12-9, 7-2) and the MSL West leaders had multiple-hit efforts from Josh Jyawook (3-for-3, double), Zach Kolakowski (2-3), Matt Wisniewski (2-4, double) and Stutzman (2-3).
Kurt Kaufman doubled and pitched 4 innings to earn the victory for Fremd. Peter Durbin doubled for Wheeling (5-12, 2-7).
Conant 7, Rolling Meadows 2: The visiting Mustangs tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth, but the Cougars (4-14, 3-7) untied it with emphasis in the bottom half with a 6-run rally to make a winnner of Mike Taccona.
Zach Losch homered and had 2 RBI for Conant, and Art Sutter, Mike Miller and Nick Fillmore each drove in runs for the Cougars. Meadows (12-8, 6-5) had only 2 hits as its 6-game winning streak ended.
Hoffman Estates 10, Buffalo Grove 0 (5 inn.): Trent Rehusch threw a 4-hitter witih 4 strikeouts and no walks for his second straight complete-game shutout as Hoffman (10-13, 5-6) ended the MSL crossover early with an 8-run fifth.
Kevin Tednes had both of his doubles and 3 RBI in the fifth and Jimmy Ward and Jordan Loikits had 2 hits apiece. BG (9-11, 4-4) lost its third straight.
Prospect 7, Barrington 5: Brad Gerdes provided a go-ahead single in the top of the seventh inning as the Knights (16-5, 7-2) rallied for 2 runs and picked up a victory at Barrington.
Peter Bonahoom (2-for-4) homered and Brian Bauer doubled as Prospect moved back into sole possession of the MSL East lead.
Jack Landwehr struck out five in 2 innings of relief to earn the victory. John O’Connell homered and finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI for Barrington (4-21, 3-7).
