Seedings were released Thursday by the Illinois High School Association for the Upcoming Class 3A and Class 4A baseball state tournaments.
Within the Class 4A DeKalb sectional, Huntley (19-2) was named the No. 1 seed at the regional it will host, while Streamwood (19-2) earned the top seed at the Hoffman Estates regional, followed by rival South Elgin (15-4-1). Top seeds at the remaining two regionals went to McHenry and Rockford Boylan.At the Class 3A Hampshire regional, Marmion edged Burlington Central for the top seed, followed by No. 3 Hampshire and No. 4 Crystal Lake Central. Thus, Central will face rival Hampshire in a semifinal and could face Marmion for the regional title if seeds hold. Marmion defeated Burlington Central last season in a sectional semifinal.
Streamwood 3, Larkin 2: Left-handed junior Dalton Lundeen improved his record to 6-0 by striking out 12 Royals and walking only 1 as the host Sabres completed the 3-game sweep in the Upstate Eight Thursday.
Lundeen held the Royals to 2 earned runs on 5 hits in a complete-game effort. Alex Morrow#146;s solo home run in the fifth inning tied the game at 2-2. Richie Gorski and Tim Cohen drove in the other runs for the Sabres (19-2, 13-2).
Miguel Villafane (3-3) took the loss for Larkin despite holding the potent Streamwood lineup to 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work. He struck out 6 and walked 3. Robbie Rybakowski went 2-for-3. Kyle Newquist hit a solo home run for Larkin (9-12, 3-10).
South Elgin 10, Lake Park: The Storm won their second straight from the Lancers to win the 3-game Upstate Eight series. Ryan Ford pitched 7 innings to earn his second victory in as many days after winning in relief on Wednesday. Ford held the Lancers to 3 earned run on 7 hits without a walk. He struck out 2. Robbie Green went 2-for-3 and drove in 2 runs, John Menken went 2-for-2, doubled and scored, Michael Murphy went 2-for-3 and drove in 2 runs and Dan Heine had a double among his 2 hits for South Elgin (15-4-1, 9-4-1).
Waubonsie Valley 9, Bartlett 7: The visiting Warriors took 2 out of 3 in this Upstate Eight Conference series despite a 3-for-4 effort at the plate by Bartlett leadoff hitter Ryan Yore. The Hawks committed 5 errors behind pitcher Cory Motz (2-4), who gave up 6 earned runs in 7 innings.
Geneva 7, Elgin 3: Shaiquelle Hayes went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored, Lee Jackson doubled and drove in a run and Javier Cardenas went 2-for-4 and drove in a run in this Upstate Eight loss for the Maroons. Drew Bloomquist (0-2) took the loss for Elgin (2-17-1, 2-14-1), which dropped its 12th straight ballgame.
Huntley 9, Crystal Lake Central 6: The Red Raiders stayed red hot and stayed in first place atop the Valley Division of the Fox Valley Conference. Jake Staab joined teammate Justin Gundlach as pitchers with 6-0 records after he allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, struck out 4 and walked 3 in 5 innings. Offensively, sophomore Bryce Only went 2-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored, Brody Burkhart was 4-for-4 with 2 RBI, Jake Perkins doubled and drove in 2 runs and Nick Corpolongo went 3-for-4 and scored for Huntley (19-2, 14-1).
Burlington Central 11, North Boone 1: Sam Klein struck out 11 Vikings without a walk and allowed just 1 earned run on 3 hits as the Rockets cruised to the Big Northern East victory in six innings. Tanner Scott (2-for-3, 2 2B, 2 RBI) and Luke Fleming (2-for-4) paced the offense for Burlington Central (13-5, 6-2).Hampshire 4, Harvard 2: The Whip-Purs snapped a 3-game skid behind the complete-game 2-hitter pitched by sophomore Shane Hernandez (1-0), who held the Hornets to 2 earned runs on 6 hits in a Big Northern East road game. Luke Wians went 3-for-4, Zack Skog had 2 hits and Cameron Waterworth doubled and drove in a run for Hampshire (11-8, 4-2).
College baseball
Judson game suspended: Play at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament between Judson University (40-17) and St. Francis was suspended due to rain after three innings. The game will be resumed today at noon at Oil City Stadium in Whiting, Ind. Judson is the only team remaining in the double-elimination tournament without a loss.
