Auditions May 23-24 for CLC summer musical, 'Oliver!'

Auditions for the College of Lake County summer musical, “Oliver!” will be held on Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. The musical will be performed over two weekends, July 15-24.

Auditions will be held in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Actors only need attend one night of auditions. Call backs will be held May 25 and 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Actors 16 and older should prepare a song from the production and a two-minute dramatic monologue from any play. Actors under age 16 should prepare a song and skit that best shows off the performer's stage presence. Rehearsals will be held in the evening and begin May 31. Director Thomas B. Mitchell is seeking actors ranging in age from six to 60.

One of the most beloved British musicals, “Oliver!” brings to life Charles Dickens' timeless characters and the ever-popular story of the boy who asked for more. After running away from the orphanage run by the heartless Mr. Bumble, Oliver meets the Artful Dodger and is recruited to pick pockets for Fagin. Among thieves, Oliver finds a friend in Nancy, but neither she nor the boy are fit for a life of crime.

A smash hit in London and on Broadway, Oliver! is packed full of irresistible songs, including “I'd Do Anything,” “Where is Love?” “Consider Yourself,” “As Long as He Needs Me,” “Who Will Buy?” “Reviewing the Situation” and “Food, Glorious Food.”
