Pitcher Henry Gigeous threw a complete-game 6-hitter, Zac Camacho doubled and hit a 3-run home run and Dillon O’Toole doubled, hit a solo home run and drove in a pair to lead Jacobs to a 5-1 win over Crystal Lake South.

The win was the fourth straight for Jacobs (8-12, 6-7) against a Fox Valley Conference opponent.

Gigeous (2-2) struck out 10 Gators without a walk. The University of Oregon recruit allowed just 1 earned run. Camacho’s blast keyed a 4-run sixth inning that broke open a 1-1 game.

“It was a well-pitched game by Gigeous and a couple of great at-bats in the sixth by Zac and Dillon,” Jacobs coach Erik Kehoe said. “As a team I thought we had some great approaches at the plate tonight and it finally paid off in the sixth inning.”

CL South starting pitcher Robbie Lemke (5-3) allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 2 in 6 innings. Dom Winiecki went 3-for-3 and stole 2 bases, but the Gators (14-6, 10-5) committed 3 errors en route to their second straight loss.

Dundee-Crown 5, Grayslake North 4: Sophomore Dylan Kissack’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Scott Nowicke to lift the Chargers to an extra-inning victory in Carpentersville. Kirk Hanselmann went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, Jake Romano tripled and scored a run and Nowicke finished 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Jordan Kalous earned the win after 3 innings of 2-hit relief for Dundee-Crown (15-10, 12-5), which won its third straight.

Cary-Grove 2, Wauconda 0: Five Cary-Grove pitchers combined to shut out the visitors in this nonconference affair. Starter John Spoelstra (5-2) pitched 2 innings to earn the win, and Alex Wians and Matt Panek each went 1-for-2 and drove in runs. Daniel Vilardo had the other 2 hits for Cary-Grove (16-7, 12-4), which won its sixth straight.

Huntley 12, Crystal Lake Central 3: Justin Gundlach improved to 6-0 this season by tossing a 6-hit complete-game against the visiting Tigers in a Fox Valley Conference game. Gundlach walked 1 and struck out 6. Carlos Alvarez and Nick Corpolongo each finished 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Jake Perkins went 2-for-4, homered and drove in 2 runs for Huntley (18-2, 13-1).

Geneva 7, Elgin 3: Javier Cardenas was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI and Shaiquelle Hayes and Jake Bartelt each doubled, but the Maroons were outhit 8-5 in an Upstate Eight Conference loss in Geneva. Eric Daly allowed 6 earned runs on 7 hits in 4 innings for Elgin (2-16-1, 2-13-1).

Waubonsie Valley 6, Bartlett 2: The host Warriors struck for 2 runs in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie, and they added 3 runs in the fifth inning to even this 3-game Upstate Eight Conference series at one game apiece. Brett Barger suffered the loss for Bartlett (7-12, 4-7), which saw its 3-game winning streak end.

St. Francis 6, Hampshire 4: Hampshire led 4-3 going to the sixth despite managing only 2 hits, but the visiting Spartans erupted for 2 doubles and a home run in a 3-run inning to earn the nonconference win. Cameron Waterworth and Sean O’Shea had the only 2 hits and Matt Calvello took the loss in relief for Hampshire (10-8), which dropped its third in a row.

Lyons 2, Westminster Christian 1: The Class 2A Warriors more than held their own before dropping a tight one on the road to one of the top programs in Class 4A. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the seventh, the Warriors pulled within a run when Will Woodhouse doubled home Ben Stevenson for an unearned run, but the next two Warriors struck out to strand the tying run at third. Kevin Elder (7-2) took the loss despite holding the Lions to 2 earned runs on 6 hits. He struck out 5 and walked 1 in 6 innings for Westminster Christian (20-6).

Wheaton Academy 2-10, St. Edward 1-7: The Green Wave dropped a pair of Suburban Christian Conference games in West Chicago. Jake Koehring (1-4) was the hard-luck losing pitcher in a 2-1 defeat in Game 1 despite holding the Warriors to 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings of work. Tyler Morowski doubled for the Wave.

Tom Limberis (0-1) took the loss in Game 2. Ryan DiCristofano went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, Tighe Koehring doubled twice and drove in 2 runs, Derek Porto had 3 hits and drove in a pair and Tighe Koehring doubled and drove in 2 for St. Edward (5-21, 3-11).

College baseball

Spartans split: Elgin Community College dropped the opener of a doubleheader 10-7 to visiting Rock Valley before rebounding for a 1-0 victory behind a complete-game shutout from pitcher Andy Grunewald (7-2). The Spartans (35-12, 9-5) won the nightcap when Brady Renner singled up the middle with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to score George Tintera.
