Mundelein edges Libertyville in 10th
Mundelein’s baseball team had to work overtime Tuesday to keep its perfect season intact.
Torr Randau went 3-for-4, Isaac Aleman homered, and the Mustangs scored twice in the top of the 10th to outlast host Libertyville 6-4 in North Suburban Lake Division action.
Ryan Borucki notched the win for Mundelein, which hiked its record to 20-0 and 6-0 in the NSC Lake.
Libertyville got doubled from Dar Townsend and Anthony Mack.
Vernon Hills 12, Round Lake 6: The Cougars received a quality start from MJ Crowley for his fourth win this season.
Vernon Hills (17-5) put up 10 runs in the first three innings of the North Suburban Prairie Division game. Tyler Coppney (3-for-5, double, 2 RBI), Chris Marras (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Anthony Mazza (1-for-2, 2 RBI) led the way offensively.
Ryan Newman had a double for Round Lake.
Grayslake Central 9, CL Central 6: The visiting Rams broke out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and never trailed.
Mark Gawinski picked up his third win of the season, tossing the first five innings, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out three.
Christian Edwards pitched a scoreless seventh to notch his first save.
“Mark gave us a great effort for five innings, and Jake Oslovich and Christian both did a great job out of the pen,” Rams coach Troy Whalen said. “This was a big road win and keeps us at the top of the conference standings.”
Offensively for Grayslake Central (13-8), Austin Miller and Ryan Hamrick both had a double and single.
Warren 8, Lake Zurich 0: Ryan Kennedy and Adam Glogovsky combined on a 4-hit shutout for the host Blue Devils in the North Suburban Lake contest.
Kennedy fired the first 6 innings, allowing just 3 hits, while striking out eight.
Kevin Colburn (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI) and Alex Letto (2-for-4, RBI) led the way offensively for Warren (13-7). Anthony Garza contributed a double for the Blue Devils, while Kennedy was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Cal Haley had a single and an RBI.
Lake Zurich got a double from Jeremy Reusch.
Antioch 12, Grant 9: Alex Grimm collected 3 hits, and Adam Warner and Paul DeJong each had a pair, as the visiting Sequoits outslugged the Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie game.
Joe Gregory (3 RBI), Warner (2 RBI) and DeJong (RBI) each had a double for Antioch (11-5, 4-1).
Grant’s Jared Helmich hit his fourth home run and drove in 2 runs. The Bulldogs got 2 hits apiece from Jordan Villarreal (2 walks, RBI), Jake Ring (double, walk) and Brent Spohr (3 RBI).
Lakes 19, North Chicago 2: The Eagles improved to 10-8 overall and 3-1 in the North Suburban Prairie.
