Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove stay hot

Rolling Meadows junior right-hander Matt Hendricks lost his no-hitter and shutout on one second-inning swing in Monday’s Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover at Schaumburg.

But the homer by the Saxons’ Jeremy Hall was Hendricks’ only mistake as he didn’t allow another hit and Meadows (10-7, 4-4) won its fourth straight in the MSL and overall 4-1.

Hendricks (3-3) had 3 strikeouts and 2 walks and threw only 80 pitches. He was backed by errorless defense.

“Matt was very efficient,” said Meadows coach Jim Lindeman. “We’ve caught the ball and we’re getting pretty good pitching.”

The Mustangs also got clutch hitting against the Saxons (9-4) with two-out runs in the third on a double by Eric Lowe (3-for-4) and a single by Kyle Krzeski. Pat McGinn had an RBI single and Tyler Gaedele had an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Elk Grove 9, Fremd 3: Elk Grove (10-6, 4-1) won its fifth straight as Mike D’Angelo (3-1) scattered 9 hits and allowed only 1 earned run. D’Angelo had no walks and 1 strikeout.

Jack Czeszewski went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI, Michael Anciulis was 2-for-4 and Ryan Daubenspeck hit a 2-run homer in the third. Fremd (8-9, 3-2) committed 7 errors.

Prospect 3, Palatine 1: Jack Landwehr threw a 6-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk and drove in the tiebreaking run for Prospect (14-4, 5-1) in the MSL crossover.

Peter Bonahoom (2-for-4) had an RBI single in the first and started the fifth with a two-out double. Landwehr followed with an RBI single and Brian Bauer drove in a run with his second double.

Joe Walsh was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and Scott Schneberger had an RBI single in the second for Palatine (11-11, 2-3).

Leyden 11, Downers South 6: Carlos Olavarria went 3-for-3 with a homer and got the save as Leyden (19-1, 13-1) completed a three-game sweep of West Suburban Gold preseason favorite Downers Grove South. Sandro Irizarry went 5 innings for the win for the Eagles.

Hoffman 1, Hersey 0: Hoffman Estates (7-12, 2-5) was held to 1 run for the eighth time this year but for the first time it was enough as Trent Rehusch threw a 2-hitter.

Rehusch had 2 strikeouts and 2 walks and threw 65 of his 97 pitches for strikes. The senior righty got out of a bases-loaded jam in the second and retired 11 of the last 12 hitters.

Rehusch also helped himself against Hersey (10-8, 4-3) righty Mike Danielak, who scattered 8 hits and had 9 strikeouts and no walks.

Freshman Ethan Bloom led off the fourth with a dboule and Rehusch (2-for-2) sacrificed him to third. Jordan Loikits (3-for-3) came through with an RBI single.

Buffalo Grove 3, Conant 1: Ryan Nisbet hit a 2-run homer and Dan Recht (3-0) scattered 7 hits for BG (9-8, 4-1) in the MSL crossover. Recht had only walk and used one of his 6 strikeouts to get out of a jam when Conant (2-12, 1-5) had second and third with one out in the sixth.

BG third baseman Andrew Van Wazer (2-for-4) drove in a seventh-inning insurance run with a two-out single on an 0-2 pitch. He also started a game-ending 5-3-5 double play with Kevin Tennenbaum.

Barrington 11, Wheeling 0: Taylor Ward threw a 2-hitter with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk as Barrington (4-18, 3-4) won the MSL crossover in 5 innings. The Broncos got 2 hits apiece from Aaron Foley (3 RBI), Macray Poidomani (2 RBI) and Jake Broughton.
