The Bulldogs rolled up 22 hits in their two victories, 9-2 and 14-10.
In the first game, Jake Ring and Jared Helmich each had 2 hits. Both of Ring’s hits went for doubles while Helmich also doubled. Helmich drove in 4 runs while Brent Spohr drove in 2 runs.
Helmich was also the winning pitcher. He finished with 4 strikeouts in 4 innings to move to 3-3.
For Round Lake, Randy Eanos had 2 hits.
In the second game, Grant pounded out 14 hits, including some clutch hits late in the game. The Bulldogs scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh on a walkoff grand slam that broke up a 10-10 tie.
Ring was all over the place for the Bulldogs, rolling up 4 hits, including the grand slam home run and a double. He drove in a total of 7 runs in going 4-for-6. Ring also stole 3 bases and he got the win on the mound, moving to 3-3 after striking out six in 3 innings.
The Bulldogs also got 2 hits apiece out of Helmich, Spohr and Schenning. For Round Lake, Eanos had 3 hits, including a double. He also drove in 2 runs. Ryan Newman also had 3 hits while Chris Rana added 2 hits. Newman also pitched for the Panthers and rolled up 9 strikeouts in five innings.
Vernon Hills 4, Wheeling 0: Freshman pitcher Pat Crowley moves to 4-0 on the season with the victory.
He was able to work with an early lead as the Cougars went up 2-0 in the first inning, thanks in large part to a double by Chris Marras that scored Argianas. Argianas then brought in 2 runs in the fourth for Vernon Hills, which won its 16th game of the season.
Stevenson 9, Buffalo Grove 2: Stevenson busted up a 2-2 tie by coming up big in the sixth inning. The Patriots scored 7 runs to put the game out of reach.
Stephen Galanaopoulos drilled a triple for Stevenson while teammates Max Golembo and Jack Karras each had doubles. Pitcher Zachary Gordon got the win. He moves to 4-0 on the season.
Grayslake Central 22, Dundee-Crown 2: No, it’s not a misprint. The Rams were crossing home plate over and over again in a huge Fox Valley Conference win.
Grayslake Central rolled up its 22 runs on 17 hits.
Winning pitcher Mark Ash helped his cause, hitting a 3-run home run and a single. Teammate Austin Miller also had a home run and a single.
Meanwhile, Cam Neely added three hits, including a double, and Brett Mahr had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs for the Rams, who broke a two-game losing streak and are now 12-7 on the season.
“It was a hitter’s day with the wind howling out and our kids did a great job in taking advantage of the conditions,” Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen said.
On the mound, Ash scattered 5 hits in moving his record to 4-0.
Mundelein 13, Kenosha Bradford 0: Mundelein stayed undefeated (18-0) by enacting the slaughter rule after six innings.
The Mustangs rolled up 12 hits, thanks in part to Austin Ozog, Bill McMahon and D.J. Lewis, all of whom went 2-for-3 with a double.
Winning pitcher Ryan Borucki struck out 5 batters and gave up just 1 hit in five innings.
Antioch sweeps Westosha: Antioch moved to 10-4 with two wins over Westosha of Wisconsin, 4-2, 17-7.
In the first game, Alex Grimm tallied 2 hits and Paul DeJong drove in 2 runs to lead the Sequoits at the plate. Meanwhile, pitcher Bob Pranke moved his record to 4-0 by recording 8 strikeouts against just 2 walks.
In the second game, Antioch rolled up the hits, 14 overall. Joe Gregory led the way with 4 hits, including 2 doubles and a triple. He also drove in 4 runs. Aaron Karpiel, Brett Prather and Paul DeJong each rolled up 2 hits for the Sequoits. Karpiel and Prather drove in 3 runs apiece. Meanwhile pitcher David Meade got the win, striking out 4 batters along the way.
Clemente 2, Lake Zurich 0: The stats seem backward.
Lake Zurich allowed just 2 Clemente hits, struck out 14 Clemente batters and issued no walks. And the Bears somehow came out with the loss.
Clemente drilled a solo home run in the first and Lake Zurich was also hurt by its one and only error in the game. Likewise, the Bears managed only 5 hits of their own and struggled with runners in scoring position.
Pitcher Mike Schnur, who was recently shaken by a car accident, was behind all of the impressive numbers from the mound. He threw a complete game for the Bears.
Lake Zurich’s only player with multiple hits was Parker Asmann. He had 2 hits as the Bears dropped to 5-11 on the season.
Huntley 10, Grayslake North 2: The Knights dropped to 5-14, despite 3 hits from Kevin Staszczak and 2 hits from Brandon Fern.
