Pitchers Brett Barger (4 innings) and Jason Fachie (1 inning) held the Mustangs scoreless in relief of Colin Nowak, who allowed 3 earned runs in 3 innings. David Mutter homered and drove in 2 runs. Fachie (1-2) got the win.

Cory Motz (2-3) tossed a complete-game to win Game 2. He scattered 7 hits and struck out 4 without a walk. Ryan Roszkowiak homered and drove in 4 runs and Ryan Yore staked Bartlett (6-11, 3-7) to an early advantage with a leadoff home run.

South Elgin 9, Conant 6: Kenny Lowden smacked 2 more home runs to tie Cary-Grove’s Michael Vilardo for the area lead with 9. Lowden drove in 4 runs. Marty Knuth (3-0) earned the win and Andrew Perry picked up his third save for streaking South Elgin (12-3-1), which won its seventh straight.

Batavia sweeps Elgin: The Bulldogs took a pair of Upstate Eight Conference games from the Maroons in Elgin by scores of 12-9 and 9-0. In Game 1, Batavia scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie it 7-7 and scored 5 more in the eighth to win it. Jake Meyer (0-2) took the loss in relief. He also drove in 3 runs in the game, as did Lee Jackson (4-for-5, double). Joe Kellenberger (0-1) was saddled with the loss in the second game for Elgin (2-13-1, 2-10-1).Burlington Central 14, Marengo 0: Sam Klein went 4-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Joey Lange was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and Tom Chiarugi drove in 2 runs in a five-inning rout for the Rockets in Big Northern East play. Zach Ranney (2-1) did not allow a hit in 3 innings of work for Burlington Central (11-4, 4-1).DeKalb 6, Hampshire 4: Dylan Nihells went 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in 2 runs and Luke Wians was 3-for-3 with a run driven in, but last year#146;s Class 3A state runner-up rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth to overcome a 4-3 deficit. Matt Calvello (2-1) allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits in 4 innings for Hampshire (10-6).St. Edward loses two: The Green Wave dropped a pair of road games in a split doubleheader After losing 7-1 at Montini in the morning, St. Edward tried to bounce back against Aurora Christian. The Wave trailed 10-0 after two innings but scored 8 runs in the fourth inning to make it competitive in the Suburban Christian Gold. Ryan Nudd doubled and drove in 3 runs and Tom Limberis and Luke Duffy each doubled and drove in a pair for St. Edward (3-18, 1-9).Huntley 10, Grayslake North 2: Jake Staab improved to 5-0 after holding the Knights to 2 earned runs on 11 hits in 5 innings. Carlos Alvarez and Colin Lyman each homered and drove in 3 runs and Nick Corpolongo went 4-for-5 and drove in a run in a Fox Valley Conference road win for Huntley (16-2, 11-1).

Crystal Lake South defeats Johnsburg, Woodstock North: The Gators won both ends of a split doubleheader against Fox Valley Conference opponents. CL South defeated Johnsburg 2-1 when Tyler Salm#146;s suicide squeeze bunt on a full count with one out in the top of the seventh scored Dom Winiecki with the winning run. Winiecki tied the game with a run-scoring single. Nick Martin (4-1) allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits in a complete-game effort. He issued 2 walks and struck out 10.

CL South (13-4, 9-3) topped Woodstock North 8-1 behind 6 innings of 1-hit pitching from Ryan Price (1-1). Winiecki homered again and drove in 2 runs and Martin doubled twice and drove in a run for the Gators.

Cary-Grove 11, Crystal Lake Central 1: John Spoelstra (3-1) held the Tigers without an earned run on 3 hits in a five-inning Fox Valley Conference victory in Crystal Lake. Tyler Lau homered twice and drive in 5 runs and Matt Panek went 4-for-4 with 4 RBI to lead Cary-Grove (13-7, 10-4).Grayslake Central 22, Dundee-Crown 22: The host Rams scored at least 7 runs against three different Dundee-Crown pitchers to cruise in this Fox Valley Conference matchup. Kirk Hanselmann went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles for Dundee-Crown (13-10, 9-5). Tyler Gross (2-2) took the loss.

Westminster Christian wins twice: The Warriors defeated Sycamore 6-1, then outlasted Immaculate Conception 7-6 in eight innings. Kevin Elder pitched a complete-game against Sycamore. He allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits and struck out 10. Elder and Frank Oliver each had 2 hits, including a double.

Ryan Perez (6-1) was the winning pitcher for the second day in a row after pitching 3 hitless innings of relief against IC. Pitching right-handed, Perez struck out 5 and walked 1. Ben Stevenson delivered a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to lift Westminster Christian (18-5) to its 12th straight victory.

College baseball

ECC sweeps: Elgin Community College took a pair of games from Carl Sandburg by identical scores of 7-3. Ryan Burke (5-0) won the first game by scattering 7 hits in 6 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Steve Cocat homered for the Spartans. ECC (31-11, 9-5) finished the sweep behind Devin Rowland (3-2), who allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 6 innings.

Judson splits: The Eagles beat Calumet College (Ind.) 6-5 in eight innings in the first game but their 8-game winning streak came to an end with a 6-4 loss in Game 2. Judson (37-14, 20-7) concludes the regular season today with a doubleheader at St. Xavier.
