Fremd bats stay hot
The Fremd bats were clicking again Friday in Palatine.
The Vikings pounded out 16 hits in a 16-6 Mid-Suburban League softball crossover victory over Prospect.
Junior second baseman Megan Hubbard belted a home run and a double as the Vikes improved to 16-1-1 and 5-1 in the MSL West.
Allie Gaeding (4-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI, 4 stolen bases), Brittany Ciura (2-for-3, 2 RBI, double), Caitlin Patenaude (2-for-3, 2 runs) and Janelle Schneider (2-for-3, 3 RBI) were other top hitters for the Vikes.
Sophomore Ashlynne Schwantz (8-1) went 4 innings for the win, striking out seven.
Sam Mangrum (2-for-3, home run), Michele Molini (3-for-3) and Sarah Scaccia (2-for-3) led the offense for Prospect (4-10, 1-5).
Barrington splits: Barrington (16-6) bounced back from its loss to state power Elk Grove by defeating another state power in the downstate Washington Invite.
The Fillies posted a 6-2 win over Trinity (17-2) as senior Kiley Dolezal (12-4) threw a 4-hitter.
Barrington avenged a 10-5 loss to Trinity earlier this season at the Fields of Dreams.
Leading the Fillies’ offense were Kiersten Tinkoff (3-for-4, triple, 2 RBI), Loren Krzysko (2-for-3, RBI), Liz Owen (2-for-4, double, RBI), Kristin Kuhn (2-for-3, double) and K.D. Madden (2-for-3, RBI).
The Fillies also dropped a 6-0 decision to Stanford Olympia (18-2). Owen, Danielle Di Iorio and Jazlynn Skor had the hits for the Barrington.
Schaumburg 1, Rolling Meadows 0 (8 innings): Senior Rebecca Thompson singled home pinch runner Kirsten Safley for the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Winning pitcher Alyssa Lancaster (3-4) threw a 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts as teammate Shannon Giovannone went 3-for-3,
Jenna Lane and Giovannone led off the eighth with back-to-back single before Alexis Carravetta sacrificed the runners to second and third.
Schaumburg improved to 6-5 and 2-3 in the MSL West while Meadows is 10-6 and 3-3 in the MSL East.
Conant 10, Buffalo Grove 0 (6 inn.): Conant junior Briana Cavin allowed 1 hit and struck out nine to lift the host Cougars (14-1, 5-1).
Allie Bauch and Paige Ward had 3 hits and Kim Jacobson had 2 for the Cougars. Cavin, Jacobson and Ward all doubled for Conant.
Senior Danielle Browne doubled for the only hit by Buffalo Grove (8-7, 3-4). Browne also doubled for BG’s only hit against Fremd last week.
Leyden 11, Addison Trail 1 (6 inn.): Morgan Maize improved to 11-1 after tossing a 7-hitter at Addison Trail.
Maize also homered and drove in 4 runs for the Eagles (12-2 overall, 2-1 West Suburban Gold). Others with big days at the plate for Leyden included Christina Morgan (2-for-2, double, 3 runs), April Markowski (triple, 3 RBI) and Bri Michels (2 hits).
St. Viator 7, Carmel 2: St. Viator (7-10, 2-3) had 11 hits as senior Julie Sweeney won her sixth game a 5-hitter and 7 strikeouts.
The Lions’ offense was led by a pair of seniors and a pair of freshmen.
Seniors Kelly O’Brien (3-for-4) and Tayler Lenart (2-for-4 2 RBI) and freshmen Sam Hogan (2-for-4) and Gina Mastrodomenico (2-for-3, 3 RBI) led the offense.
“Jaclyn Koziol and Alex Flasch provided some great defensive play,” said Lions coach Dan Twarog. “I thought we did an excellent job in controlling our emotions after a few early miscues. We played flawlessly in the last four innings. Tayler Lenart called an excellent game behind the plate. Our co-captains (Sweeney and Lenart) are leading by example.”
Palatine 13, Niles North 3 (6 innings): Dani Boisvert (10-2) struck out two as the winning pitcher for Palatine (12-3) in its opening game of the Rolling Meadows Invite.
Katie Mnichowicz (2-for-5), Alex Ballenger (2-for-4), Joanne Jablonski (3-for-4, home run), Lauren Logan (3-for-4, triple) and Katie Scovic (3-for-4) led the offense.
