Dist. 93 staff donate $597 to give needy kids a great birthday

The staff members at Community Consolidated School District 93 donated $597 to Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Children's Birthday Project which brightens the birthdays of 700 needy children in DuPage and Kane counties.

The school district serves portions of Bloomingdale, Carol Stream and Hanover Park, as well as unincorporated areas of DuPage County with nearly 4,000 students and eight schools encompassing grades PK - 8. It strives to maximize the academic, social, and emotional potential of each student by utilizing world-class educational practices, in partnership with parents, staff, and community.

Karole Kettering, Executive Director of the Carol Stream-based Humanitarian Service Project, said, “We are so grateful for the support of Community Consolidated School District 93's staff members in helping the needy children in the community have a “Special Day”, even though the child's family is in a difficult financial situation. They share our commitment to improve the lives young people and their generosity will allow us to provide eleven more local children with a great birthday!”

HSP's Children's Birthday Project provides a child ages 3-12 with a 25-30 lb. Birthday Box containing 6 new books, 6-15 new toys, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, school supplies, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The charity delivers the child's birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas time, back-to-school supplies, and the child's family becomes eligible for the HSP's summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.
