Softball/Fox Valley roundup

Cary-Grove’s defense wasn’t very sharp Thursday, but sophomore Lindsay Efflandt, as usual, was.

Efflandt (10-1) scattered 6 hits, allowed no earned runs and had 9 strikeouts and the Trojans overcame 5 errors to beat Lake Zurich 3-2 in a nonconference softball battle.

Alexis Haley provided the big bat for Cary-Grove (12-1) as she recorded a double and all 3 RBI to lead the Trojans while Eleni Polites recorded a multihit game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sarah Markelonis had the Trojans’ only other hit of the game.Lake Park 7, South Elgin 4: The Storm (9-5, 4-2) fell behind 5-2 after one inning of play and could not recover as they were defeated in Upstate Eight Conference action. Alyssa Buddle paced the Storm offensively going 2-for-3 with a double while Katelyn Stonecipher and Shannon Conway each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Sam Bolin (8-3) suffered the loss in the circle.

Streamwood 8, Larkin 7: Holly Foret (3-for-3, triple, 5 RBI) recorded a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Sabres (3-10, 2-6) ahead and eventually lead them to an Upstate Eight Conference victory. Bri Bogdajewicz added a 3-for-4, 2 run performance from the plate. Kaitlyn Hedger earned the victory in the circle as she scattered 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out four in a complete game effort.

Marengo 12, Hampshire 0: The Whip-Purs (3-9, 1-2) were no-hit and committed 5 errors as they fell to the Indians in the Big Northern East. Jennifer Hurst suffered the loss as she threw 1 inning, allowing 3 hits.

Westminster Christian drops two: The Warriors (6-6, 2-4) were no-hit in Game 1, falling 11-0, and then lost Game 2 to Alden-Hebron 9-1. Rachel Fugiel (2-2) suffered the loss in Game 1 as she allowed 7 hits and 4 walks. In Game 2, Ally Hielscher recorded the Warriors#146; lone RBI while Porshe Griggs had 2 hits. Fugiel took her second loss of the day as she surrendered 9 hits and 4 walks.

College softball

Judson sweeps: Judson ran its record to 28-12 overall and 12-4 in the CCAC with a 1-0, 7-5 sweep of St. Francis. The Eagles are now just a game out of first place in the conference. Sam Gladen and Sarah Boyer picked up the wins for Judson, which plays a nonconference doubleheader today at Wisconsin-Parkside.
