Jacobs breaks out offensively

Jacobs jumped on Woodstock North pitching for 7 runs in the first inning and went on to collect 16 hits in a 15-0 Fox Valley Conference victory in five innings in Woodstock Thursday.

Brett Kale helped the Golden Eagles (3-8, 2-5) snap a five-game losing streak and win for the first time since April 7. Kale (1-2) earned his first victory of the season on the mound by holding the Thunder scoreless with 4 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. He also belted a 3-run home run.

Mark Self (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Connor Conzelman (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Eric Lonigro (2-for-4, 3 RBI) contributed to the offensive outpouring for Jacobs.

“We swung the bats real well today and our pitching did a nice job throwing strikes,” Jacobs coach Erik Kehoe said. “I was happy to see our offense executed early in the game and defense make the routine plays.”

Huntley 10, Prairie Ridge 0, 5 inn.: The streaking Red Raiders secured their eighth straight victory by scoring in all five innings of their Fox Valley Conference road game in Crystal Lake. Nick Corpolongo and Brody Burkhart each went 2-for-4 and scored. Burkhart and Kameron Sallee both drove in 2 runs. Justin Gundlach (4-0) struck out 8 without a walk and held the Wolves scoreless on 4 hits in 5 innings for Valley Division leader Huntley (12-1, 8-0).

Cary-Grove 9, Grayslake Central 2: Kevin Weber won his first game of the season for the Trojans by holding the Rams to 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits. Weber (1-0) struck out 9 and walked 3 in 6 innings. Tyler Lau doubled twice, and Michael Vilardo’s 3-run home run keyed a 5-run fourth inning for Cary-Grove (10-4, 7-1), which won its third straight.Crystal Lake South 12, Woodstock 2, 6 inn.: Robbie Lemke (4-2) struck out 11 Blue Streaks and walked none, and the Gators collected 13 hits to win a Fox Valley Conference game in Crystal Lake. Dom Winiecki (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Tyler Salm (2-for-3, 3 runs) and Chris Hauser (2-for-3, 3 runs) paced the offense for CL South (9-4, 4-2).

McHenry 4, Dundee-Crown 3: A day after being no hit by Crystal Lake South, the Chargers were held to 5 hits in a Fox Valley Conference loss in Carpentersville. Scott Nowicke homered and Jake Romano doubled for Dundee-Crown (8-8, 5-3). Erik Brewer (1-2) went the distance for D-C, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) without a walk and 1 strikeout.

Burlington Central 8, Harvard 0: Nick Hahn (2-2) pitched a complete-game 1-hitter to lead the Rockets to their third straight win. Hahn struck out 10 and walked 1. Tanner Scott went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Clem Acitelli had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Joey Lange and Bryan Leist each went 2-for-4 and drove in a run in the Big Northern East road win for Burlington Central (10-3, 3-0).Hampshire 3, Marengo 2, 8 inn.: Tyler Crater keyed a Big Northern East victory for Hampshire. The sophomore pitched all 8 innings and held the Indians to 2 runs on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk to improve his record to 3-1. At the plate, Crater#146;s 2-run double in the fifth inning gave the Whip-Purs a 2-0 lead, and his two-out single in the top of the eighth proved to be the game winner. Zack Skog and Nick Holze each had 2 hits for Hampshire (7-5, 2-1).Streamwood 5, Batavia 1: Trailing 1-0, the Sabres erupted for 5 runs in the third inning, and Blake Hunter (3-0) worked his way around 7 hits and 4 walks via 8 strikeouts to hold down the visiting Bulldogs in Upstate Eight Conference play. Richie Gorski went 3-for-4, Pat Manning homered and drove in 2 runs, Nate Pearson went 2-for-4 with 2 steals and Bobby Post drove in 2 runs for River Division leading Streamwood (14-0, 8-0).South Elgin 4, East Aurora 1: Andrew Perry (1-0) held the Tomcats scoreless for 5 innings on 3 hits and struck out 7, and Eric Stazy struck out 4 in 2 innings to nail down an Upstate Eight Conference victory for the host Storm. Nate Garris went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and John Menken doubled for South Elgin (8-3-1, 3-3-1).Neuqua Valley 7, Bartlett 0: Colin Nowak and Dan Schlitter had the only 2 hits for the Hawks in an Upstate Eight Conference loss in Naperville. Nowak (1-2) took the loss after allowing 6 runs (3 earned) in 3 innings for Bartlett (4-11, 1-7).

St. Charles East 20, Elgin 3: The visiting Saints scored 6 runs in the first inning and tallied in each of the five frames to subdue Elgin (2-8-1, 2-5-1) in an Upstate Eight contest. Alex Doty (1-2) took the loss for the Maroons

Westminster Christian 3, Rockford Christian 2: The Warriors used a 2-run fourth inning to overtake the visitors in a Northeast Athletic Conference game in Elgin. Frank Oliver doubled and scored the tying run on Andrew Mason#146;s RBI single. Ben Stevenson (2 RBI) drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout for Westminster Christian (10-5, 3-0), which made a winner out of winning pitcher Kevin Elder (4-1). The teams attempted to play a second game, but the contest was suspended by darkness in the fifth inning with the scored tied 5-5.

College baseball

Judson sweeps division leader: The Judson University baseball team swept a doubleheader from first-place Robert Morris to pull within 2 games of the lead in the North Division of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Tyler Ware pitched a 2-hit shutout to lead the Eagles (31-13, 15-7) to an 8-0 victory in Game 1. He retired the side in order in five of seven innings and struck out 6.

Judson trailed 2-0 in Game 2 until Nate Rohl hit a grand slam, his 11th home run of the season. Robert Morris (30-15, 16-4) scored twice in the seventh to tie it, but the Eagles won on a walk-off balk in the bottom half of the inning.
