Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup
The Burlington Central girls soccer team won its fifth straight game Thursday night, knocking off Big Northern East rival Hampshire 4-1 on Rocket Hill.
The Rockets (5-4, 3-0) jumped out of the gate early and never looked back. Maddie Stoneman recorded 2 goals and 1 assist to lead the Rockets’ offense. Kali Andrew and Heather Krup each recorded 1 goal while Michelle Fowler and Lindsey Puccio added 1 assist apiece.
Caitlin Solberg recorded 12 saves in goal for the Rockets.Cary-Grove 8, Crystal Lake Central 0: The Trojans (8-6-1, 5-2) scored early and often as they made quick work of Fox Valley Conference rival Crystal Lake Central on the road. Korey Kronforst recorded 4 goals to pace the Trojans while Mary Schneider (assist), Hannah Weber, Brittany Loehner (assist), and Jae Jay Usab recorded 1 goal each. Krystal Felderman preserved the shutout in goal as she turned away 1 shot on goal.
Crystal Lake South 2, Niles North 1: The Gators (7-5-2) fell behind 1-0 after one half of play, but rebounded with a strong second half as they defeated Niles North at the Glenbrook Cup. Christina Szocka and Cella Albuquerque each recorded a goal while Kali Loescher added 2 assists. Elizabeth Quinn recorded 1 save in goal.
Elgin Academy 7, Morgan Park Academy 0: The Hilltoppers (2-4, 1-2) took an early 5-0 halftime lead as they easily defeated Morgan Park Academy on the road. Ashley Barnes (3 goals), Emma Stone (2 goals, 3 assists), and Veronica Clements (1 goal, 2 assists) led the Hilltoppers while Kaitlyn Ward also recorded a goal. Mary Snell recorded 2 saves in goal to preserve the shutout.
Grayslake Central 2, Dundee-Crown 0: The Chargers (3-11, 2-4) were tied at 0-0 with about 3 minutes left as Grayslake Central found the back of the net twice to earn the victory. Ali Sanders turned away 5 shots on goal for the Chargers.
South Elgin 1, Jacobs 0: Savanah Uveges found the back of the net off a feed from Lauren Vedrine to propel the Storm (8-5) to a 1-0 nonconference victory over visiting Jacobs. Emily Young turned in a stellar performance in goal as she recorded 11 saves to earn the shutout.
