Elgin withstood a 6-run seventh-inning rally by Batavia to hold off the Bulldogs 8-7 Wednesday in Upstate Eight Conference softball action at Batavia.
Hannah Perryman had a double for the Maroons (12-5, 2-4), who also overcame 4 errors. Jennah Perryman (6-3) was the winning pitcher. She allowed only 5 hits but walked 10 with 5 strikeouts.
“We hit the ball well and put it in play,” said Elgin coach Chad Dahlman. “We almost gave it up in the end but we got the outs we needed and held onto the victory.”
St. Edward 2, Montini 0: The Green Wave (3-6, 3-2) won their third straight as senior Tarah McShane hit her fourth home run of the season and senior Sarah Field fired a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts in this Suburban Christian Blue game. Kelsey Richmond was 2-for-2 for St. Edward and Maddie Kerr 1-for-2.
Bartlett 13, East Aurora 0: Ailica Salata tossed a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and Kaylyn Zierke drove in 5 runs as Bartlett (7-9, 4-2) rolled to an Upstate Eight win. Nicole Beck had a double and 2 RBI for the Hawks, while Jacki Gulczynski drove in 3 runs and Lisa Matsie had 2 RBI.
Cary-Grove 17, Woodstock 0: Lindsay Efflandt struck out 12 and allowed just 2 hits in moving to 9-1 for the season as the Trojans (11-1) won easily in this Fox Valley Conference crossover. Efflandt was also 3-for-5 with a double, home run and 5 RBI, while Eleni Polites (3-for-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI), Taylor Dunne (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Lisa Semro (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI) also contributed to the offense.
CL Central 7, Huntley 6: The Tigers pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Huntley (5-8) in an FVC crossover. Tara Lycos was 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI for the Red Raiders, while Kelsey Hagan and Brittany Koss each had a double and an RBI. Taylor Larson was the losing pitcher.
St. Charles East 10, Streamwood 6: The Sabres left 7 runners in scoring position in losing this Upstate Eight game. Jen Mellenthin had triple and 2 RBI for Streamwood (2-11, 1-6), while Bri Bogdajewicz and Kaylie Jambor each had 2 hits and an RBI. Kellee Conquest was the losing pitcher.
Westminster Christian 17, Maria 7: The Warriors (6-4) pounded out 18 hits in winning this nonconference game. Katie Moeller (4-for-5, 2B, 3B, RBI), Rachel Fugiel (4-for-5, 2 doubles, HR, 2 RBI), Hannah Graves (3-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI) and Andi Walsh (3-for-4) led the offense. Moeller was the winning pitcher. She allowed 5 hits with 9 strikeouts and 10 walks.
College softball
Judson sweeps: Katie Talbot and Haley Secor picked up the wins as Judson (26-12) beat Elmhurst College 8-4 and 12-1 in a nonconference doubleheader. Emily England had 3 hits and 3 RBI in Game 1, while Allison Catlett had 2 hits including a home run and 5 RBI. Erin Stankus also had a home run for the Eagles. Sam Gladen picked up the save in Game 1 for Judson.
