Softball/Fox Valley roundup

South Elgin softball coach Jason Schaal was looking for some senior leadership to step up and lead the Storm Tuesday. Down 5-2 at Streamwood going into the sixth inning, his team needed a spark.

Enter senior center fielder Katelyn Stonecipher.

Stonecipher delivered a 3-run home run to give the Storm a 6-5 lead and propel them to an eventual 9-5 Upstate Eight crossover win over the Sabres.

“We needed excellent senior leadership and she gave it to us today,” said Schaal of Stonecipher. “I’m very proud. We were down 5-2 and we were able to improve our energy. I was very proud of that.”

Shannon Conway went 3-for-4 for the Storm (5-3) and Lexi Hansen was 2-for-4 with a double. Taylor Rees (1-2) earned the win and Sam Bolin came in for the save.

Kaylee Jambor (2 RBI), Holly Foret and Bri Bodgajewicz each had 3 hits for Streamwood (1-3). Brittany Delao had 2 hits and Jenna Szabo drove in 2 runs. Kelsey Johnson was the losing pitcher.

“We need to learn how to close teams out,” said Streamwood coach Nick Baird.

Jacobs 7, Prairie Ridge 4: Kaitlyn Woloszyk was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Kelsey Peterson went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI as the Golden Eagles (4-3) scored all their runs in the second inning of this Fox Valley crossover win. Marissa Lombardo (2-0) allowed just 5 hits, struck out five and walked two to earn the win.

Huntley 3, Grayslake North 1: Tara Lycos was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI and Brittany Koss had 2 hits to lead Huntley (1-4) to am FVC crossover win. Taylor Larson (1-2) allowed just 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 11 to earn the win.

Cary-Grove 7, CL Central 0: No. 2 Cary-Grove (5-0) kept rolling along as Lindsay Efflandt struck out 11, walked 1 and allowed just 5 hits. Lisa Semro (2-for-3, 2 doubles), Sara Markelonis (2-for-4, 2B) and Emma Gaulke (2-for-4) led the Trojans’ offense.

Nazareth 3, St. Edward 0: Losing pitcher Sarah Field had a double for St. Edward (0-4) in this nonconference loss on the road.

Grayslake Central 3, Dundee-Crown 1: Amanda Eissler had 3 hits and Melany Love a double for D-C (2-3) in an FVC crossover setback. Eissler was also the losing pitcher.

CL South 16, Johnsburg 3: The Gators continued their hot start by pounding out 18 hits. Shannon McGinnis was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI, Tori Stevenson 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and winning pitcher Sam Golf 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Golf allowed 7 hits and struck out six in picking up the win for the Gators (6-1).

Plano 14, Hampshire 4: Losing pitcher Elisa Wood was 2-for-3 with a double for Hampshire (1-5) in this nonconference loss.

Christian Liberty 15, Westminster Christian 5: Katie Moeller was 2-for-3 with a double and Allie Hieschler had 2 hits for the Warriors (1-2, 0-1) in this Northeast Athletic Conference loss. Hannah Graves was Westminster’s losing pitcher.

College softball

ECC splits: Courtney Bosteder had 2 hits including a home run to lead Elgin Community College to a 6-4 win over Moraine Valley and a split of an ISCC doubleheader. Ashley Frey drove in 2 runs for the Spartans, while winning pitcher Jennifer Jordan and BreAunna Medinger each had a single RBI. Jordan allowed just 4 hits in picking up the win. In Game 1, Bosteder was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI but the Spartans fell 13-8. Diana Besser was the losing pitcher.

Judson splits: Sam Gladen picked up the pitching win and hit a home run to lead Judson to an 8-6 win in Game 1 of a CCAC twinbill against Calumet College. The Eagles (17-8, 6-2) fell in Game 2 by an 8-5 score. Emily England was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI in Game 1 for the Eagles while Sarah Boyer picked up the save. Carrie Sensor was 3-for-3 in Game 2.
