Harper to present ‘Beauty and the Beast’
The Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast” will be presented later this month at Harper College, produced by ArtReach Educational Theatre, in partnership with Spotlite Theatrix Production Company.
The shows will be staged at the Harper College J Theater, 1200 West Algonquin Road, Palatine, at 7:30 p.m. April 29; 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 30; 7:30 p.m. May 6 and 2; and 7:30 p.m. May 7. Tickets are $18 at the door; $16 in advance. Call (630) 808-5852.
When Maurice, the resident of a provincial French village, becomes lost in the woods on the way to the fair, he seeks shelter in an old castle, but the master of the castle is a horrible beast that takes him captive. Maurice’s daughter, Belle, must give up her freedom to save his life.
The production is directed by Chicagoan Dan Walsh, with choreography by Walsh; Jonah Parra, Palatine; DezaRae Shafala, Poplar Grove; Amanda Gilbert, Kildeer; and Olivia Dal Porto, Lake Zurich. Musical direction is by Lexi Burkley, Lake Zurich.
The cast includes Lexi Burkley as Belle; Jonah Parra as The Beast; Dan Walsh as Lumiere; Angela Panzarella of Niles, as Mrs. Potts; Chelsey Ponce of Grayslake as The Wardrobe; and Drake Miller, Palatine, as Gaston.
Sharing the role of LeFou are Jake Rosenberg, Arlington Heights, and Nic Clarisse, Des Plaines. Sharing the role of Babette are DezaRae Shafala and Sarah Beth Rabin, St. Charles.
Sharing the role of Cogsworth are Dylan DeWitt, Buffalo Grove, and Patrick Greer, Vernon Hills. Sharing the role of Chip are Hope Hoffman and Isabel Kaegi, both of Palatine.
The mission of ArtReach Educational Theatre is to expose children to all aspects of theater, music and dance. The group accepts any child with a genuine interest in the arts from age 5 through high school.
