Bartlett splits at Elk Grove

The Bartlett baseball team split its season-opening doubleheader at Elk Grove Village Saturday.
Bartlett won the opener by a 5-1 margin. The game was tied 1-1 into the sixth inning until Ryan Yore delivered a 3-run double to key a 4-run outburst and make a winner of Cory Motz, who in 6 innings allowed only 3 hits and struck out 3 Grenadiers.
Elk Grove bounced back to nip Bartlett 5-3 in the second game despite a 3-hit, 2-RBI effort by Bartlett’s David Mutter and a triple from Robert Smith. Brett Barger took the loss for the Hawks in the nightcap.
Cary-Grove 8, Ottawa 1: Cary-Grove starting pitcher Matt Panek allowed 1 earned run in 3 innings, struck out 4 and walked 2 in a successful season opener for the Trojans in Ottawa. Matt Byrne went 2-for-2, Nick Taylor doubled and drove in 3 runs and Michael Vilardo doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Trojans, who scored 6 runs in the last two innings to blow open a tight game.
Crystal Lake South 5, Richmond-Burton 1: Dom Winiecki doubled and drove in 2 runs and Chris Morrison and Nick Martin each doubled and drove in a run for the Gators (3-0). Martin earned the win by limiting the visiting Rockets to 1 unearned run on 2 hits in 6 innings. Martin struck out 5 and walked 1.
College baseball
Judson extends record: The Judson University baseball team extended its school-record winning streak to 12 straight by sweeping Roosevelt University 15-5 and 6-1 in a CCAC, giving head coach Rich Benjamin his 100th career victory at the school.
Nick Krisman (4-1) and Mitch Smith (3-1) each tossed complete games. T.J. Swank went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI in Game 1, while Brian Brauer, Johnny Amann and Nate Rohl each homered in Game 2 for the Eagles (16-4, 2-2).
