Wauconda snaps skid
Wauconda's boys basketball team hadn't won a game in nearly a month.
The Bulldogs ended that drought Friday night, defeating visiting Grant 59-57 in the two teams' North Suburban Prairie finale to snap a six-game losing streak.
Tyler Gick scored 18 points, and Kyle Ryan added 16 for Wauconda (7-19, 3-9). Michael Obrochta had 8 points and 7 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Led by Jerry Gaylor, who scored 20 points, Grant lost its third consecutive game and had its record fall to 14-10 and 8-4.
Lake Zurich 63, Zion-Benton 51: The host Bears ended their six-game losing streak by defeating the Zee-Bees in the North Suburban Lake finale for both teams.
Mirko Grcic scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Lake Zurich (6-19), which finished 3-9 in the NSC Lake.
Colin Rathe and Mike Boyd each added 10 points. Drake Orser put up 8 points and 9 rebounds, and Brenden Seeger had 9 points. In his first game up, sophomore Ryan Roach had 5 points for the Bears.
"Great team effort," Lake Zurich coach Billy Pitcher said. "We put together four quarters."
North Chicago 86, Antioch 39: The host Warhawks clinched a berth in Wednesday's North Suburban Conference championship game.
North Chicago finished 10-2 in the NSC Prairie, tying Vernon Hills for first place, but won the tiebreaker to represent the division in the conference-title contest.
Antioch (4-23) finished 1-11 in the NSC Prairie.
