Kirchoff’s torrid shooting sparks Harper
Unlike the weather outside, sophomore Anna Kirchoff (Barrington) was red-hot Tuesday night inside the Harper College Sports and Wellness Center.
Hitting 8 of 16 shots from the field, Kirchoff rang up a game-high 22 points in just over 23 minutes of action to lead the Hawks to a 73-26 N4C victory over Milwaukee Area Technical College.
“Sunday (against Wright) I didn’t have a good shooting night,” Kirchoff said.
“When she shoots under control, she shoots outstanding,” said Hawks coach Mark Smith, whose team has two weeks left before starting the NJCAA Division III Region IV tournament.
The Hawks (13-10, 7-3) received a scare with 10:51 left in the second half when Kirchoff colided with a player from the Stormers (0-23, 0-4), but she walked off the court and returned later.
The Hawks’ Larissa Aguero (Wheeling) made her home conference debut, scoring a dozen points and grabbing 8 rebounds.
“She’s a tough guard for the other post player,” Smith said.
Sarah Kellermeyer (Schaumburg) finished with 13 points, 9 in the second half. Julisa Bell helped the Hawks gain a 45-43 rebounding edge with 7.
Harper 57, Wright 40: With coach Mark Smith away at Michigan State to visit his daughter, assistant coach Marlene Sarley led Harper (12-10, 6-3 N4C) to a 57-40 win over Wright in the first-ever Sunday home game in the Hawks’ 36-year history. Hawks sophomore center Sarah Kellermeyer (Schaumburg) led all scorers with 19 including a 3-pointer during the deciding run. Sophomore Guard Anna Kirchoff, (Barrington) added 17, including 10-for-10 at the free-throw line and sophomore guard Siobhan Cerney (Schaumburg) chipped in 10.
