Russell drops out of ECC board race
Rob Russell has dropped out of the race for the Elgin Community College board of trustees, leaving five candidates vying for three spots.
“My career is going really well,” said Russell, a corporal for the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. “I want to spend more time with my family and focus on my job right now.”
Russell’s departure means the following names will appear on the April ballot: board Chairwoman Eleanor “Ellie” MacKinney, longtime Trustee John Duffy, Elgin attorney John Dalton, Richard Geary and Robin Lisboa.
Darwin Adams and Edgar Pereda were crossed off the ballot in January because an election board ruled they did not comply with filing rules.
Russell, a South Elgin resident, said he had hoped to oversee the expansion of ECC’s public safety training program. He still plans to offer his services to the college and did not rule out a future run for the ECC board.
Russell made an unsuccessful run for the Republican nomination for Kane County Sheriff in 2010.
