Grayslake Central win streak hits 20
Grayslake Central's girls basketball team officially dethroned Johnsburg as champions of the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division on Friday night, but it wasn't easy.
The visiting Rams won 56-51, rallying from a 43-39 deficit after three quarters.
Skyler Jessop sank a 3-pointer and conventional basket in the fourth for Grayslake Central (22-2, 11-0), which ran its winning streak to 20 games.
Jessop and Rebekah Llorens each scored 15 points for the Rams, while Alex Scarbro finished with 13. Kat Dickson (6 points) hit a pair of shots in the fourth, which saw the visitors outscore the Skyhawks 17-8.
Johnsburg's Melissa Dixon had 24 points.
Libertyville 54, Mundelein 36: Savannah Trees' 11 points, including a 3-pointer, led the undefeated Wildcats to the North Suburban Lake win.
Jackie Hansen added 9 points for Libertyville, which improved to 24-0 and 11-0 in the NSC Lake.
Mundelein (12-14, 3-8) was led by Amanda Davis' 12 points and Olivia Dunigan's nine.
Grant 36, Antioch 33: The Bulldogs kept alive their slim hopes in the North Suburban Prairie, while eliminating the Sequoits.
Grant (9-13, 6-3), which trails first-place Wauconda (9-1) by 2 games in the loss column, received a game-high 17 points, including three 3-pointers, from Donnie Taggart.
Andi Potkonjak had 10 points and Nicole Kelly grabbed 10 rebounds for Antioch (14-8, 5-4), which lost its second in a row after 10 straight wins.
BG 64, Rolling Meadows 63: Talk about redeeming yourself.
With 2.2 seconds left, junior guard Emily Cho missed 2 free throws that would have given her Buffalo Grove girls basketball team the lead.
Instead the game went to overtime tied at 55-55.
But guess whose free throws were a major reason Buffalo Grove was smiling after the extra session?
Cho made 5-of-6 in the final 1:45 of overtime to lift the Bison to a dramatic 64-63 triumph over Rolling Meadows before a big crowd at Buffalo Grove for Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Senior Night.
"Holy Moly, what a game," said Bison coach Pat Dudle, whose team (12-12, 6-2) won for the 11th time in 15 games to remain two games behind Hersey in the Mid-Suburban East. "I told Emily right before overtime that there's no one else I'd rather have on the free throw line than her. Obviously, she came through."
"My team really kept me up," said Cho, who was 11-of-15 at the line with 15 points. "I just had to act like those were ordinary free throws I missed. I was upset but I just had to stay up. KC (Dunne, a teammate who had fouled out late in regulation) told me how important my intensity was to the team and that just really picked me up."
Sophomore Bailey North helped pick up the Bison with her game-high 17 points while Emily Georgoulis had 11, including three huge 3-point baskets in the second half.
"Bailey stepped up her game," Dudle said. "Andrea DiPrima (13 points) made some big passes. Her vision is getting better and better."
