Kellermeyer, Harper roll past Madison

After losing its first two conference games, one of them a road loss to No. 3-ranked Rock Valley College, the Harper College women’s basketball team had won two straight heading into Tuesday night’s 67-46 dismantling of NJCAA Division III defending champion Madison College.

Sophmore Sara Kellermeyer had her best offensive night at the Harper College Sports and Wellness Center. The forward scored a team-high 30 points (a career-high at home), while accumulating 6 rebounds and 5 steals.

“When we are able to go inside (good things happen),” said Harper coach Mark Smith said of the Loras transfer’s production near the basket.

This marks the second time the 6-foot-1 Schaumburg alum has gone for 30 points or more this season. Kellermeyer scored a career-best 34 points earlier this the season.

Harper leading scorer Anna Kirchoff was up to her usual tricks as she poured in 22 points to go along with 7 rebounds 2 assists and a team-high 6 steals.

“When she can be a little more selective in her shots, that’s going to help us out,” Smith said of Kirchoffs 9-for-18 shooting performance.

For the first time at home this season, the Hawks (8-9, 3-2 North Central Community College Conference) were able to start their “big” starting lineup, with Kellermeyer and 6-foot sophomore Betsy Bailey (Palatine) roaming the paint. Bailey missed the first half of the season while recovering from a torn MCL and ACL near the end of last season.

Bailey did not score but was able to contribue 3 rebounds a steal and a blocked shot in her home debut.

The Wolfpack (7-10, 3-2) was led in scoring by Alice Kopp, who fiinished with 16 points.
