Harper women to face third-ranked Rock Valley
The Harper College women’s basketball team travels to Rockford today to take on the third-ranked team in the nation, Rock Valley Community College, in North Central Community College Conference play. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (11-6, 1-0) have not lost since an 84-83 defeat against Malcolm X on Dec. 28. Rock Valley defeated College of DuPage 69-54 in a conference opener earlier in the week.
The Hawks (5-8, 0-1), meanwhile, suffered a 75-54 loss at Joliet Junior College on Tuesday night in their N4C opener.
One key to the Golden Eagles’ attack is sophomore Cierra Morris. She is the 21st-leading scorer in the Division III level of NJCAA play at 14.2 ppg.
The Hawks counter with sophomore shooting guard Anna Kirchoff (Barrington), who is Division III’s 14th-leading scorer at 17.9 ppg.
The Hawks received a big boost Tuesday when they got good news about in 6-foot-1 sophomore forward Betsy Bailey (Palatine). She’d been out of action since tearing both her MCL and ACL just before the regional tournament last season but has been cleared for game action.
Bailey’s return should help ease the pressure on sophomore Sarah Kellermeyer (Schaumburg).
