Kirchoff, Harper handle Lake County
Fresh off a 26-point performance in Thursday's 60-57 loss to Oakton, Harper College's Anna Kirchoff (Barrington) was once again asked to make big buckets for the Hawks.
And that's what she did in Harper's 53-39 win over visiting College of Lake County (6-7).
For the first few minutes of the game, it looked like the Hawks were going to have an easy time with Lake County.
Kirchoff helped jump-start the Hawks' attack. She scored 8 points to go with 3 steals and a rebound all before the Lancers had scored.
Kirchoff finished with 20 points.
“We had a strong first half,” Harper coach Mark Smith said.
The Hawks (5-7) held the Lancers to 13 first-half points.
Smith liked the way freshman guard Sara Eschenbaum (Lake Zurich, 7 points) was able to make it difficult for the Lancers guards to run their team's offense in the first half.
“Overall we played well,” said Smith. “(It) was a good way to go into the break,” Smith said.
The Hawks travel to Joliet Junior College on Jan. 4 to begin conference play.
