Folarin confirms she won't run again for ECC board
Elgin Community College board member Phyllis Folarin has announced she will not seek re-election.
Folarin, a former board chair who was first elected in 1999, made the announcement at Tuesday's board meeting. She was the only incumbent who had not filed election paperwork.
Board chair Eleanor MacKinney and board member John Duffy are seeking re-election. Elgin attorney John Dalton, Robert Russell and Darwin Adams have also submitted their petitions.
Dalton, who made an unsuccessful run for 16th Circuit judge this year, said Tuesday he was recruited to replace Folarin.
“I was approached by the incumbent candidates to run for the ECC board because Phyllis decided not to run,” Dalton said.
He said that he is running on a slate with the two incumbents, MacKinney and Duffy. They will call themselves “Three for ECC.”
“The three of us feel the direction of the school is the right direction,” Dalton said. “We intend to stay that course.”
Folarin has not returned a call seeking comment.
Russell ran unsuccessfully for Kane County sheriff this year.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20 to file. ECC says 14 people took out election packets.
