Road to the quarterfinals: Loyola d. No. 15 Whitney Young 42-0, No. 10 Fremd 14-7; Palatine d. No. 3 Glenbard North 28-14, No. 11 Glenbrook South 42-14

Playoff history: Palatine is making its 16th appearance and fourth straight under Tyler Donnelly. This is its fifth quarterfinal trip and first since 1997 when it lost to Addison Trail. It made semifinal trips in 1989, 1994 and 1996. Loyola is making its 20th playoff trip and fifth straight under John Holecek. This is its eighth quarterfinal trip and second in a row. It made the semifinals in 1975, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2009.

Matchup history: They split nonconference meetings in 1993 (Palatine 13-7) and 1994 (Loyola 14-0).

Advancement: The Palatine-Loyola winner would host a semifinal with the winner of today's 7 p.m. quarterfinal between No. 1 Stevenson (11-0) and No. 4 Maine South (9-2).
