What to know: Top five teams and top seven runners from non-qualifying teams advance to the Class 3A state meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria at 2 p.m. Nov. 6.

What to know: Palatine is the team to beat as it won the MSL title by 16 points and then stormed to the Wheeling regional title. Individually, Barrington junior Erik Peterson, Palatine junior Anthony Gregorio and Schaumburg senior Travis Morrison will battle it out for the title.

Teams to watch: Palatine has separated from the pack the past two weeks and is gearing up for a strong run at the state Class 3A meet. Junior Anthony Gregorio, senior Reuben Frey and senior A.J. Laskowske power the Pirates attack. Junior Tim Johnson also had a strong run at the Wheeling regional. Lake Zurich is also looking strong as it took first in the North Suburban Conference and followed it up by dominating the Libertyville regional. Junior Pat Juras and senior Victor Delatorre went 1-2 at the regional and the Bears are poised to make a run at Palatine. Schaumburg is also feeling good after taking first at the Hoffman Estates regional. Senior Travis Morrison, junior Tyler Anderson and sophomore Evan Prizy lead the Saxons. Prospect seemed to recover from a fourth-place finish in the MSL by taking second at the Hoffman regional. Senior Kellan Strobel powers the Knights' strong pack attack. Barrington is also primed to return to the state meet. Last year the Broncos missed making the state meet by 1 point, this season junior Erik Peterson leads a strong Bronco assault.

Individuals to watch:

Erik Peterson, Barrington The junior finished second at the Wheeling regional after winning the MSL title.

Anthony Gregorio, Palatine The junior took first at Wheeling and is coming on strong.

Travis Morrison, Schaumburg The senior let Peterson and Gregorio pull away at the MSL meet; he is looking forward to the rematch on Saturday.

Pat Juras, Lake Zurich The junior took first in the NSC and Libertyville regional, he is peaking at the right time.

Jereme Atchison, Buffalo Grove The Bison junior cannot be overlooked; he has run with the leaders all season long.

Others to watch: Anthony Manfrin (Dundee-Crown), Kellen Strobel (Prospect), Ryan O'Donnell (Hersey), Evan Prizy (Schaumburg), Reuben Frey (Palatine), Kevin Wood (Stevenson), Ari Rothschild (Highland Park), Troy Cunningham (Conant).
