Harper College notes

Two teams at the bottom of their respective divisions in the Midwest Football Conferece meet Saturday in Palatine as Iowa Central (2-3, 1-3) pays Harper (1-4, 0-4) a visit.

Saturday's outcome could go a long way in deciding which team makes the regional playoffs. The Tritons may have a slight advantage over the Hawks because both their victories came against junior college opponents, including Midwest Football Conference member Joliet Junior College.

Harper and Joliet will play Saturday, Oct. 16.

Rival College of DuPage plays Joliet this Saturday. If the Chaparrals win that game, it is less likely that the Hawks would have to play Grand Rapids Community College in the regionals.

Harper's victory came in Week 2 against the Wisconsin-Whitewater JV team.

Against Iowa Central, look for the offense to be led by quarterback Stuart Augustine. If the Hawks opt to run out of the wildcat formation, it will be running back Jackson Davenport (Carmel). He has run for 97 yards (4.9 yards a carry) on 20 carries this season.

Look for both teams to try to run the ball.

“This will probably be the shortest game in college football, Harper coach Eric Waldstein joked.

The Tritons' running attack is led by Illinois native Darylan Dunn. He's rushed for 563 yard with 8 touchdowns.

Waldstein said the Hawks have to “play for your pride. This is a big game we have to take pride in our team.

Ÿ The Harper men's soccer team was awarded two 1-0 forefit wins over Kankakee by the NJCAA this week. The Harper College athaletic department received a letter from the NJCAA saying Kankakee had been using inelgible players.

“For us, it opens the door back up for us (in regionals), said Harper coach Jason Diebold.

The Hawks' record improves to 6-5-1 overall with the victories.
