Kaneland special-ed meeting:The Kaneland school district will have a meeting at 4:30 p.m. today to discuss the district's plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities who attend private schools or are educated at home, during the 2010-11 school year. Parents are urged to attend the meeting, which will be at the district offices, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park. The sessions include an overview of the college's programs and services, a tour and an opportunity to talk with the recruitment staff. The meeting is on the Mooseheart campus in the Paul J. O'Halloran Centre for Tomorrow. Enter the campus off Route 31; security will direct you to the center. The property in question is the subject of a Batavia Plan Commission public hearing that began in early September and continues Oct. 20.Batavia rec center talks:The Batavia park board will have community meetings to discuss the downtown recreation center project at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Batavia Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St.Ornaments, books for sale:The South Elgin Heritage Commission is selling copies of "South Elgin, 150 Years of Heritage," a book by Ralph Tredup, and a series of handcrafted composite resin ornaments that depict historical buildings in town. They include: the Peaslee House, a railroad depot and post office; the Truman Gilbert Home; Pioneer School; Third Rail; the Trolley and Trainwaiting Station; the Cox-Lloyd House; the village's first government center and the Kenyon farmhouse and barn. Each ornament is $15, but the Kenyon House is $20. The entire set can be purchased for $140. The book is $20.
