St. Viator claims victory at Maine West

In Maine West's Swim For A Cure invitational on Saturday, St. Viator showed there's not much ailing it these days.

Powered by a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke by Melanie Battaglia (1:10.92), Stephanie Nolan (1:11.05) and Erin Primdahl (1:12.02), the Lions rolled to the team championship with 266 points. Addison Trail-Willowbrook was second at 219, and the host Warriors placed third at 192.

Other victories for St. Viator came from the medle relay of Margaret Stefanowski, Battaglia, Primdahl and Megan Shover and from Primdahl in the 100 fly (1:02.31).

Maine West senior Ailish O'Connell won the 50 free (25.34) and the 100 free (55.90), and senior Jennifer Rey was way out in front on the way to winning diving with an 11-dive mark of 375.05.

Addison Trail-Willowbrook's top efforts came from Sara Pardue with victories in the 200 free (2:05.16) and 500 free (5:31.90), and in the 200 freestyle relay with Pardue, Emily Loveday, Molly Kuenstler and Colleen Krawczykowski and the 400 free relay with Pardue, Loveday, Kuenstler and MacKenzie Kummer.

Wheeling's best efforts came from Leah Malsom, who placed second in both the 200 free (2:06.23) and 500 free (5:38.59).

The meet was the second annual effort by Maine West coach Ryan Claus and the Warriors swimming program to generate money for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.
