Scouting Wauconda at Grant

Wauconda (1-3, 0-1) at Grant (1-3, 1-1)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last week: Wauconda lost to Warren, 42-0; Grant to Antioch, 49-30.

Skinny: It's a matchup of potent offenses and teams that desperately need a win. Wauconda's spread option was piling up points (98) until running into a bigger, deeper Warren squad last week. Now, strong-armed QB Brian Kent (54-of-97 passing, 848 yds.) and his teammates go up against a Grant team that has given up 145 points. "Their QB, Kent, is really good," Grant coach Kurt Rous said. "(Wide receiver Brandon) Dorsey is fast. Their offense is good. Our defense is not." ... Wauconda's defense has struggled, too, allowing 170 points. The Bulldogs will have their hands full trying to stop Grant's option attack led by QB Leo Minne (513 rushing yds., 8 TDs) and FB Steven Niewiedzial (499 yds., 6 TDs). "Looking at their film against Antioch, it should be interesting to watch both QBs perform," Wauconda coach Dave Mills said. "I think the team that gets the most support from special teams and their roles players will win. It's a big game for both teams. A win keeps you in the hunt for the playoffs. Losing makes the playoffs very hard to get to."
