Barrington tops Hersey to remain unbeaten
Barrington matched its win total of last season as it improved to 3-0 with a 35-14 Mid-Suburban League crossover victory over visiting Hersey.
Matt LeMire was 10-for-19 passing for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns and Ben LeCompte had 3 of the Broncos' 4 interceptions. Chase Murdock also rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown as they led 21-0 at halftime.
Hersey (2-1) rallied within 21-14 with two third-quarter scoring drives. Chris Polinski rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown.
Elk Grove 29, Fremd 22: Elk Grove senior quarterback Nick Meyer proved to be too much for Fremd in the Grenadiers' win over the host Vikings on Friday night. Meyer rushed for 99 yards on 22 carries, including a touchdown. He also completed 12-of-25 passes for 201 yards and 2 more touchdowns.
Big plays hurt the Vikings as Meyer connected with senior running back Mike Wary for gains of 67 and 49 yards. The 67-yarder resulted in a touchdown, and the 49-yarder set up Wary's 15-yard TD run.
Fremd senior running back Justin Wallace carried 28 times for 141 yards and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Rich Concialdi completed 7-of-13 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted four times by the Elk Grove defense.
Palatine 37, Wheeling 23: Enjoying one of the finest games of his career, Palatine senior quarterback Cody Bobbit threw for 2 touchdown passes and rushed for two as the visiting Pirates improved to 2-1. Bobbit ran for 60- and 4-yard touchdowns and threw the first touchdown pass (11 yards) of his career to his younger brother Jesse, a sophomore.
Bobbit also threw a 14-yard TD strike to Jimmy Smearman (144 yards rushing) for the Pirates' final score in the fourth quarter.
Junior quarterback Tyler Brady was 20-of-34 for 232 yards for Wheeling (1-2) with a 15-yard touchdown run and a 37-yard TD pass to Billy Jaime.
Buffalo Grove 21, Conant 18: Buffalo Grove rallied to defeat visiting Conant in an MSL crossover as Bison quarterback Mike Garrity rushed for 3 touchdowns. Garrity finished with 169 yards rushing on 32 carries and 9-for-17 passing for 125 yards for Buffalo Grove (2-1).
Prospect 52, Hoffman Estates 0: Prospect made Hoffman Estates pay for its mistakes Friday night. The Knights raised their record to 2-1 with a 52-0 victory over the host Hawks (0-3).
Prospect converted 3 first half-turnovers into touchdowns and amassed 431 yards total offense. The Knights recovered 4 Hoffman fumbles and intercepted a pass.
Peter Bonahoom's interception on the first play of the game put the Knights in position to score their first touchdown, a 3 yard run by quarterback Steve Dazzo. Bonahoom ran for touchdowns of 47 and 13 yards and returned a fumble 51 yards for a third touchdown. He gained 115 yards on 10 carries.
Dazzo (158 yards rushing and 65 more passing) also threw for 2 touchdowns, 10 yards to Sam Frasco and 37 to Grant DePalma, both in the first half.
Prospect led 39-0 at halftime, and Bonahoom's 13-yard scoring run with 6:59 left in the third quarter led to a running clock the rest of the way.
Prospect returned fumbles for touchdowns on consecutive plays, when Patrick Inserra followed Bonahoom's TD with a 17-yard return of his own.
The Knights' final TD came on a 4-yard run by reserve quarterback Devin O'Hara in the fourth quarter.
Schaumburg 47, Meadows 6: Shepard Little rushed for 5 touchdowns as Schaumburg (3-0), the top-ranked team in Class 8A, rolled to the MSL crossover win at Rolling Meadows (1-2).
