Monday's Fox Valley roundup
Jen Hurst threw a 5-inning no-hitter Monday as the Hampshire softball team defeated East Aurora 12-0 in a nonconference game at Hampshire. Hurst struck out five and walked one.
Tiffany Bentley had a double for the Whip-Purs (7-21) and Becca Vodraska added 2 hits.
Streamwood 6, Elgin 4: Elgin took a 4-3 lead into the top of the seventh inning but Streamwood scored 3 runs and held on to defeat the Maroons in Upstate Eight Conference play. Kelsey Johnson picked up the win for the Sabres (7-22, 3-14), allowing just 5 hits. Bri Bogdajewicz (RBI), Jen Mellenthin (2B) and Delaney O'Malley (2 RBI) led the Streamwood offense. Sam Doty and Jenna Jaynes each had doubles for Elgin (10-23, 4-14). Hannah Perryman (9-10) suffered the loss for Maroons, who lost their fifth straight. The two play again May 25 in the Class 4A Streamwood regional opener.
South Elgin 1, Waubonsie Valley 0: Alyssa Krause's double drove in Katelyn Stonecipher with the game's only run in the first inning and Sam Bolin tossed a 3-hitter as the Storm (11-17, 6-10) won in the Upstate Eight. Bolin struck out seven and walked four.
St. Charles North 11, Larkin 1: Anna Esterino had a double and an RBI and Corinne Wimmer doubled for Larkin in this Upstate Eight loss. Kiernan Schock (4-8) suffered the loss in the circle for the Royals (9-19, 6-10).
DeKalb 10, Burlington Central 8: Ashley Scheffler was 2-for-3 with a home run, Sam Gruner went 3-for-4 and Katie Maleski was 2-for-2 but Burlington Central's late comeback fell short in nonconference action. Kelsey Johnson (1-3) took the loss for the Rockets (10-11).
Cary-Grove 9, CL South 3: Freshman Lindsay Efflandt notched her 20th pitching win of the season against 3 losses as Fox Valley Conference Valley Division champion Cary-Grove (24-6, 13-1) inched within 2 wins of tying the school record for wins in a season. Efflandt struck out eight, walked three and allowed just 3 hits. Abbe Wienckowski had a double for the Trojans and Sarah Leudo was 3-for-4 with 3 doubles. Liz Adams went 2-for-3 for the Gators (11-15, 4-10).
Jacobs 8, McHenry 0: Kelsey Peterson was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and Nicky Chappa went 3-for-3 as Jacobs (17-10-1, 10-4) rolled in the FVC Valley. Marissa Lombardo (11-5) scattered 5 hits, struck out five and walked three in picking up the win for the Golden Eagles.
Huntley 10, Dundee-Crown 2: Arianna Albanese and Jenna Mychko each doubled and Amanda Wisniewski and Katlie Swanson drove in runs to lead Huntley (18-10, 10-4) to a FVC Valley win. Taylor Larson (16-8) picked up the win for the Red Raiders. Melany Love was 2-for-4 with a home run for Dundee-Crown (1-24, 0-13). Losing pitcher Amanda Eissler was 3-for-4 with a double and Tiffany Rawlinson had 2 hits for the Chargers.
