The Elgin and Larkin softball teams could meet for a third time this season, this time with a regional championship on the line.
The IHSA released postseason seedings Thursday (pairings are due out today) and the Maroons and Royals are the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds respectively in the Class 4A Streamwood regional.
Hoffman Estates is the No. 3 seed and Streamwood No. 4.
Elgin and Larkin have split their season series.
Cary-Grove earned the No. 1 seed in its own regional while Grant is No. 2. Huntley and Jacobs are the 1-2 seeds in the Huntley regional.
Elk Grove, the top ranked team in the Daily Herald Top 20, is the No. 1 seed in the St. Charles North sectional, with the host North Stars No. 2. West Chicago is No. 3 and, curiously, Lake Park got the No. 4 seed despite losing twice to No. 6 seed Bartlett. Glenbard North is the No. 4 seed. South Elgin is No. 17.
In Class 3A, St. Viator is the No. 1 seed in the Hampshire regional. St. Francis is No. 2, Burlington Central No. 3, Wheaton Academy No. 4 and Hampshire No. 5.
Cary-Grove 8, Hersey 0: Freshman Lindsay Efflandt tossed a 4-hitter and Taylor Dunne went 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI as Cary-Grove won for the 20th time this season by downing nonconference foe Hersey. Also contributing to the Trojans' offense were Alexis Haley (3-for-4, 2B), Abbe Wienckowski (2-for-4, 2B), Emma Gaulke (2-for-4, 2B) and Elini Polites (3-for-4, RBI). Efflandt struck out eight and didn't walk anyone in moving to 16-3 for the season.
St. Edward 21, Westminster Christian 11: Kristi Knott and Bre Medinger each had 3 hits including a double and 3 RBI each as St. Edward (18-13) rolled to a nonconference win. Tarah McShane, Cassie Sommers and Salli Slack (2B) each drove in 2 runs for the Green Wave. Sarah Field, one of four St. Edward pitchers, earned the win in the circle. The Green Wave scored 13 times in the first inning.
Burlington Central 17, North Boone 1: Katie Maleski had a 3-run home run and Emily Bell and Haley Albamonte added triples to lead the Rockets (9-7, 5-3) to a win in the Big Northern East. Jet Kein tossed a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts for BC.
Neuqua Valley 11, South Elgin 0: Xenia Cerda suffered the loss in the circle for the Storm (8-14, 4-8) in this Upstate Eight contest.
College softballJudson at CCAC Tournament: Concetta Lampugnano collected all 4 RBI for Judson University as the Eagles won their 30th game of the year over Trinity Christian, 4-2, in the first game of the CCAC Tournament. This is the first time for a Judson softball team to win 30 games. Lizzy Jacobson earned her 16th win of the season in the circle for Judson. The Eagles then lost to Olivet Nazarene 12-2 in the second round. Judson (30-26) plays Robert Morris in an elimination game this morning.
