Tuesday's Fox Valley roundup

Bartlett scored all three of its runs in the second inning and then held off a Neuqua Valley rally in the top of the seventh to come away with a 3-2 Upstate Eight Conference softball win in Bartlett Tuesday.

Callie Dennison (2-for-3) had an RBI single in the inning and Katie Popovich delivered the big blow for the Hawks (16-7, 10-3) with a two-run double.

"St. Charles North was a tough loss for us (Monday) so it was nice to bounce back with a great win over a great Neuqua team," said Bartlett coach Jim Wolfsmith.

Dennison (15-5) earned the win in the circle, allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk. Neuqua Valley committed 5 errors in the game, Bartlett four.

St. Charles North 14, Elgin 3: Upstate Eight leader St. Charles North (20-2, 12-1) rolled over Elgin in five innings. Elizabeth Gorski had a double and 2 RBI for the Maroons (9-18, 3-9) and Samantha Doty drove in a run. Hannah Perryman also had a double. Ashley Seering hit 2 home runs for the North Stars and Emily Watts picked up the win. Jennifer Fulton suffered the loss for Elgin.

Larkin 14, East Aurora 4: Alex Buhrow had a double and 4 RBI and Lexi Smithberg was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored as Larkin (8-16, 5-8) notched an Upstate Eight win in Aurora. Nikki Banks added 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI for the Royals. Kiernan Schock (4-7) was Larkin's winning pitcher.

Lake Park 12, Streamwood 2: Delaney O'Malley had 2 hits and an RBI and Jen Mellenthin drove in the other Streamwood run in this Upstate Eight loss. Amanda Patterson was the losing pitcher for the Sabres (5-20, 1-11).

Cary-Grove 10, Dundee-Crown 3: Cary-Grove (18-6, 9-1) maintained a 1-game lead in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division with this win. Taylor Dunne (2-for-3, 2 doubles), Sarah Leudo (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI), Alexis Haley (3-for-4, 2B, 3B), Eleni Polites (2-for-4, 2B) and Sara Markelonis (3-for-4, 3 RBI) led the Trojans' 13-hit attack. Lindsay Efflandt (15-3) struck out eight to earn the win. Melany Love and Amanda Eissler each had 2 hits including a double for the Chargers (1-16, 0-10). Tiffany Lewandowski added a double. Eissler suffered the loss for D-C.

Burlington Central 17, Richmond 4: Ashley Scheffler was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and Abby Morrow went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI as the Rockets (8-7, 4-3) cruised on the road in the Big Northern East. Sarah Kisch added 2 hits for BC. Jet Kein earned the win in the circle.

North Boone 16, Hampshire 15: Christina Potempa had 3 hits including a double while Grace Jakubowski, Jennifer Hurst (2 hits) and Katelyn Bruscato (3 hits, 2 doubles) each added doubles but Hampshire (6-16, 0-6) fell short in the Big Northern East. Jill Peterson and Amanda Wescher each added 2 hits for the Whip-Purs. Bruscato suffered the loss in the circle.

Westminster Christian 7, Lake Forest Academy 4: Katie Moeller had 2 triples and 2 RBI and Stephanie Kleczynski went 2-for-3 as the Warriors (2-14) won in nonconference action. Allyson Hielscher drove in 2 runs for Westminster and Hannah Graves picked up her first win in the circle.

Genoa-Kingston 9, St. Edward 1: St. Edward (16-13) committed 6 errors and had just 5 hits in this nonconference loss at the Elgin Sports Complex. Tarah McShane (2-for-3) drove in the Green Wave's only run and Sarah Field had 2 doubles for the Wave. Bre Medinger struck out 12 and walked six in being tagged with the loss.
