Cannon, Palatine come back to top Hersey

Palatine 12, Hersey 11: Trey Cannon capped a pair of comebacks with a 3-run homer in an 8-run fourth and a go-ahead 2-run single in a 4-run sixth as host Palatine (12-10, 5-3) overcame 4 homers by MSL East leader Hersey (17-6, 6-3).

Winner Dan Haze also had a 2-run double in the fourth and walked to start the Palatine sixth. Byron Skinner doubled, Jim Smearman had a 2-run single and Kevin Klein doubled to set up Cannon's game-winning hit through a drawn-in infield.

Sean Thompson (3-for-4), Domenic Biagini, Steve Danielak and Alex Gelabert (3 RBI) homered for the Huskies, who took an 11-8 lead with a 5-run sixth. Jay Livesay and Jake Knauss had 3 of their 16 hits.

Palatine will resume Friday's suspended game after eight innings at 5-5 at 4:30 p.m. today at Prospect.

Fremd 12, BG 8: Jim McGlade made the most of his opportunity with Zenon Kolakowski still day-to-day with a wrist injury suffered when he crashed into the fence on a spectacular catch Friday at Elk Grove.

McGlade hit a third-inning grand slam as the West-leading Vikings (12-9, 7-2) took an 8-2 lead and held on in the MSL crossover. Evan Wright and Kevin Ciardiello had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Eric Paulson went 3-for-4 and Vince Addison had 2 hits.

Kurt Kaufman got the win with 31/3 innings of relief after Buffalo Grove (12-10, 5-4) pushed up the pitch count of Clint Terry, who had 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in 31/3 innings.

Ryan Nisbet went 2-for-5 with a 3-run homer, his seventh, in the fourth for BG. Jake Monson and Andrew Van Wazer had 2 hits apiece.

Wheeling 3, Conant 2: Matt Hart threw a 4-hitter for his third win and Wheeling (5-16, 1-8) broke an 11-game losing streak on Peter Durbin's tiebreaking, two-out triple in the top of the sixth of the MSL crossover.

Hart had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Steve Yfantis singled and scored the winning run, Durbin also doubled and Josh Matthys had 2 hits and an RBI.

Otto Linderman homered for Conant (9-7, 3-6).

Hoffman 2, Elk Grove 1: Sophomore Mark Roberts threw a 6-hitter for Hoffman Estates (11-12, 6-3) in a duel with Southern Illinois-bound Donny Duschinsky of Elk Grove (8-17, 3-6) in the MSL crossover.

Roberts had 6 strikeouts and no walks and only 2 hits he allowed left the infield. Chris Fett had an RBI single and an RBI triple as Hoffman led 2-0 after five and saved a run with a spectacular play at second base on a hard-hit grounder.

Joe Gordon had 2 hits for Hoffman and J.J. Kaczynski had 2 hits for Elk Grove. Duschinsky threw a 5-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Prospect 12, Schaumburg 1: Kyle Kapka went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and 2 RBI and sophomore Jack Landwehr threw a complete-game 5-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks for Prospect (12-8, 5-3) in the MSL crossover at Schaumburg (7-11, 3-6).

Ed Gerdes also hit his third homer of the year and went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. John Coen and Joey Siers had 2 RBI and Thomas Kelly and Miles Osei had 2 hits for the Knights.

Barrington 9, Meadows 2: Sean Buchholz (4-2) threw a 5-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks for Barrington (14-11, 5-4) in the MSL crossover win over Rolling Meadows (6-17, 4-5). Jack Scheffler (3 RBI) and Derek Foderaro went 3-for-4 and Ricky Alfonso had 2 RBI.
